I really wish you'd drop the erroneous idea that I "hate anything to do with religion." It's utterly false. I am not an atheist, and I have found religions endlessly fascinating over the decades of my life. What I despise are those who use their chosen faith as a club rather than as a crutch to help themselves be better ppl.

Hmmmm........

Religion can be a crutch to some. A coping mechanism. It can also be a tool, a pathway to enlightenment. Not the dogma. That's mostly archaic perceptual error.

HOLY SHIT!!! I just went to their site and what did I see? :rofl2:

The Texas chapter of Chippendales?

Some Deplorables know it would be stupid to openly come out as a Young Earther, so they take the tactic of complaining that isotope dating and the fossil record cannot be trusted.

They are lying about a lie.

It's always interesting -- and amusing as well -- when a Reichtard such as yourself loses an argument, and then instantly tries to cover it up by going all personal attack nonsense. No different, really, than a pro-choice low-IQ person yelling at an anti-abortion fan: "So how many unwanted kids have YOU adopted?"

Dismissed. As always.

It's useful as a marker on their intelligence and educational level. As you noted, that's not a very long trip for Trumpers. :)

The question is... did they have a choice? In the case of suicide bombers, they were willing, no matter what.

Fundies? Yes. We all have choices not matter what. No one on this planet can force you to change your mind if you don't want to do so.

Hell Cypress,

I am interested in all aspects of religion and moral philosophy.

My problem is that there is a group of people who get angry if I post anything remotely respectful about atheism:
https://www.justplainpolitics.com/s...-first-atheists-600-BCE&p=4605033#post4605033
https://www.justplainpolitics.com/showthread.php?166653-quot-God-is-dead-quot&p=4383990#post4383990

And there is completely different group that gets angry if I post anything remotely respectful about Christianity:
https://www.justplainpolitics.com/s...ning-the-Christian-Life&p=4371806#post4371806

Oddly, no one ever gets angry if I post anything respectfully about Hinduism, animism, Buddhism, etc.

I do not play on a team, so it is all interesting to me.

I don't appreciate it when some Christians include references to their God as if everyone shares their views. That's just rude, the way I see it. This smacks of proselytizing. Of course, I also resent it when marketers try to sell me things I don't want to buy, and it's just like that. I always feel like a fair response would be to make some reference to atheism in a matter-of-fact way, just to get even. But I don't do that because I don't want to sink that low.

Sometimes, if it gets to be too much, I simply tell the person that I do not share their religious views and I would appreciate it if they did not speak to me as if I did.

Lots of people are assholes. Some are more assholish than others in displaying it. Americans are well known to be blunt, brass tacks. Which, to many Euro cultures makes us appear assholish but then we're on top of the heap soooo........LOL

Everyone has a right to speak, but they don't have a right to force anyone to listen. I've gotten pretty good about saying, "Thanks, but I have to go take a dump. Excuse me".

In my two decades of message boarding adventures, I have seen very little genuine proselytizing.

Cambridge Dictionary

"Proselytize": to try to persuade someone to change their religious or political beliefs or way of living to your own.

As an armchair student of history, philosophy, and anthropology, I am interested in the moral and intellectual traditions of world religions, atheism, agnosticism, etc. and have the posts to prove it. This board provides a subforum for people who share that interest, or so I have always assumed..

What annoys me is when white nationalists, misogynists, and scientific ignoramuses hide behind the bible to advocate a reactionary political agenda.

The Kamikaze pilots had a decision. You remember my thread from before?

No, but we all have choices and decisions. That's the whole point about Free Will....not to be confused with "Free Willy" which is what Bobbie does on street corners every Saturday night.

A crutch is a tool that helps you walk when your foot/leg needs a bit of help. Basically I said the same thing that you did. Any negative implications on the word "crutch" is personal.

Do you also answer the door naked if you see Jehovah's Witnesses out there? lol

True on a medical crutch. OTOH, in the context given, it's a negative connotation. "Smoking is a crutch". "Alcoholism is a crutch".

It's common attack on religion by the non-religious as in "I don't need a fucking crutch to face death"....until they are scared shitless then they need a "crutch". LOL

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/crutch
anything that serves as a temporary and often inappropriate support, supplement, or substitute; prop:
He uses liquor as a psychological crutch.

Being a medical person, I use the word in that sense. As I've said multiple times, I have no beef with any religions. Just don't want them mixed in with our system of government and used to formulate our laws. Not yours, not mine, not anyone's.
