Oh wow. She passed away?
I never agreed with that saying even though it's humorous. But she did a lot to change our culture and to put women on a more equal basis with men, at least as far as education and careers go.
I think a lot of women want a man, but I don’t think every woman needs a man.
Women want the same things guys do -- to love and be loved, to have a family (but not necessarily human children), to have meaningful purpose in life, financial security. Some people can get these things in alternative ways that don't involve marriage or romance. What's important and what Steinem and other women helped achieve is choice. Because of them, women have more choices now. Whether that's a career, motherhood, marriage, being single, being able to marry a same-sex partner, get credit and buy a home w/o a male cosigner, run for high political office, serve in the military, etc. -- all things difficult or impossible for women when I was born.
