There is no law in Georgia against firing warning shots, either.
It is unclear whether or not a warning shot was fired to deter the deceased from attacking the two men in question.
It's possible, or perhaps both shots were fired in self defense directly at the assailant. I don't know, and neither do you.

You don't know whether the assailant was armed or not, and Georgia law does not say that an attacker must be armed in order to justify the use of deadly force in self defense.
If you saw the video, you can clearly see that the deceased was not "simply running past" the truck.
