Launched in March 2019, Summit News is a far-right conspiracy website.

Like most questionable sources this website does not have an about page nor disclosure of ownership. The primary writer appears to be Paul Joseph Watson, who is a former editor for the conspiracy website Infowars. Although not disclosed, Paul Joseph Watson appears to be the owner and editor of this website. Further, Summit News has been banned on Facebook.

Analysis / Bias

In review, Summit News publishes extreme right biased content that consistently uses loaded language such as Public Banned From Seeing School Shooting Case Involving Transgender Anti-Trump Culprit and Feminist Says Family Must Be “Abolished” to ‘Dismantle Capitalism’. Although Summit News occasionally sources to credible outlets they often link to Youtube videos and social media posts and then react with shock and outrage against the left, Muslims, and Feminists. They frequently promote conspiracy theories such as the Notre Dame Cathedral fire being set by arsonists. The source of this came from a Time journalist tweet, who then deleted the tweet within minutes, however, Summit News did not change their story. In other stories, they promote white nationalism through their fear that Whites are being replaced in countries like Canada.

The protest followed the announcement of a guilty on all charges verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted of murdering George Floyd, a Black man whose death last year spurred an uprising in Portland that lasted for over 100 days without respite.

But no open confrontations broke out among the two sides after the crowd began to march away from the county jail around 9 p.m.

The windows of at least two Starbucks coffee shops were smashed, and fresh graffiti was applied in many places. The crowd was closely following by police on bicycles who declared the assembly unlawful.

"One thing to note, the area affected by the criminal activity was contained within a few blocks of downtown Portland," police said. "This is not to minimize the impact to those who were victimized by the property damage, as we take any damage seriously."

Yes, the law does. It cares about who is breaking it, where the window is, and the intent of the person. It's fact based. You want to lump 'breaking window' into a monolithic crime. It isn't.

1. Two kids walk by an abandoned house and chuck rocks at the window.

2. An angry mob attacks the hotel where the President is staying. Secret Service barricades the door and locks POTUS in another room. The mob smashes the glass on the door of the suite.

In scenario one, the police might tell the kid to stop it or even write up a ticket. In the second scenario, the first person through the broken window will be dead, as will the next few.

There would be a second charge for breaking and entering as well as criminal mischief. Two more entirely different charges.
