Sure, a decision-making machine. (I'm not necessarily wed to the existence of free will anymore, but it works either way).
A soul is just wishful thinking. It's nothing more than the sum total of your internal experience, there's no "you" that exists apart from the physical being that is you.
I've got no problem with internal subjective experience being something that a neuronal network in a physical brain does. I just don't think it amounts to something that exists apart from (eg survives the death of) a physical creature.

Nothing lets them off the hook. They cannot escape their fate. The murder of the innocent is not expunged by the sacrifice of Christ.
A criminal can be salvaged if he utterly turns away from his crimes and tries to do everything he can to pay the cost of it, and turns instead to the gospel of Christ, but there is no forgiveness of the murder of the innocent.
