BLM chapter calls American flag 'symbol of hatred'

I never said "slavery was good". I said that slavery in America was the best thing that ever happened to modern-day African Americans.

Had it not been for past slavery, there wouldn't be any millionaire blacks in America today. They'd all be in Africa eating dust alongside their African brethren.

I don't think we are throwing up our hands. We spend billions on education and spending per pupil has increased more than inflation even in districts that have not increased in students.

Unfortunately, while students and faculty have remained stable in many large districts administrators have increased as have employees associated with federal educational programs. I think any financial need could be met by shifting funds around. One news program showed an expensive administration building being built while some of the schools had leaking ceilings.

The federal government has limitations becoming involved since education is a function reserved to the states. Federal funding programs are often not productive and require the schools to follow costly regulations. Often businesses selling school products (computers, etc.) are the ones pushing for federal spending.

For years the argument in education has essentially been the status quo is fine we just need more money. Then we spend more money and results don't really change. So we rinse, wash and repeat. For numerous reasons there is resistance to making changes to our educational system including a lot of vested interests, both economically and politically, in our current structure. The most recent example with COVID showed the educational needs of children will take a back seat to those vested interests.

Many of the proposed changes I see are usually moving backward. I am in favor of finding new methods for students to learn and many are available, such as simulations which are now more accessible since almost all students are linked by computer. Instead, textbook publishers want to sell schools canned programs for distance learning which appeals to schools but often involve simplistic lessons with widespread cheating.
