Well that's up for the court to decide. It's legal for police to punch suspects, but there is a limit to how much is deemed necessary before it becomes excessive. It's not legal for police to just beat the living shit out of suspects.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the knee on the neck. I have a problem with the cop keeping his knee there for over eight minutes when it was clearly not necessary. If the law actually does allow for this, then the cops should all be let off, but the law should be changed.

It will go one of two ways: Chauvin gets over charged and the jury ‘plays along with it’. And we all get to feel so swell about our justice system.

Or the jury fails to convict and BLM goes on the rampage.

All I want is the LEO to get a fair charge and a fair trial. Not want the mob wants. I will say however, if the LEO is found guilty and given a lighter sentence than BLM thinks is acceptable and they go on another rampage? Time for open season at that point.
They did not wait for the results. Politicians did not wait for the result. None of them have waited for a trial (one of the most cherished rights in this country). What the LEO did was wrong. No doubt. However mobs, on a whim, do not determine justice. Does anyone even know if this was actually a racist act and not just a bone head LEO? Has that actually been determined? Is there any evidence of that? Court will find that out right? Not a mob and a video.

I doubt the BLM will go on a "rampage". Maybe those rioters and looters though. They will find any excuse to get free TVs.

Cops are highly trained but they are not EMTs.
Knee on neck had only the effect to immobalize a violent criminal.

I’m pretty sure if there was a racial motive the Minneapolis mayor wouldn’t keep it a secret.

Like practically every other instance *race has been read into it* by people who would lecture others about racism.

Cops should know enough about recognizing symptoms of respiratory distress from dealing with so many opiate junkies. Don’t a lot of them carry Narcan?
