California becomes first state to ban hairstyle discrimination

You don't allow them to discriminate, or break laws. If you run a business in the community, you don't get to tell the community what's acceptable, based on personal grievances.

Sure, but you should get to decide what's acceptable in your own private business. If you don't agree with that, then you don't believe in the basic right of freedom of association.
This is an extreme position and it should come as no surprise that the crazier the DNC gets, the better things look for the GOP. You can say you don't care about "bigots" but opposing freedom of association is like opposing freedom of speech. You're driving away most of the Center and a lot of people on the Left too.

Taking what we choose to do within our state alone and twisting it into a national outrage to drive the hillbillies to the polls won't surprise me at all.
Are we supposed to be discriminatory assholes within our state for fear assholes in other states will choose a jerk again for potus?

You think this won't drive people in California to the Right as well? Just wait and see.

And in addition to that, your definition of "bigotry" is pretty large. If I want to have a dress code at my restaurant, is that bigotry?

Is the dress tethered to exclude solely a historically persecuted or disadvantaged race from employment there?

The statute in question applies to prejudice on basis of race in education and employment. It doesn't say you can't hand a man a dress coat if he forgot one.

No you don't get to discriminate there either. People wouldn't hire blacks, or Irish, etc back when, and that's against human decency. You don't get to disallow people from providing themselves a living, because you don't like something about the of race, heritage, sexual orientation, or religion. We'd have a lot of bullshit going on, and people deprived all over, if you let such nonsense pass the sniff test.

No, I really don't. Let's put it this way, an inconsequential few, most of whom already wear Nazi tattoos across their entire faces and whose upside
potential is avoiding lifelong incarceration. No more than a couple sovereign citizens in Weed, California.

This issue is a lot like the plastic bag ban in California. Take away all their angry and outrage that California thought of it and just think about the subject at hand for a damn minute
and one says, "hey, it's the right thing to do."

If I told stone Putin thought of it he'd think it was a great idea. Probably start a thread.

SO!!!!!

Should he wrestle with a one inch nose ring and ear rings? Or 2 inch fingernails

There are guide lines as to what is allowed and what is not allowed, in all sports.

In the case of the Official making the young man cut his dread locks, the Official was wrong and was suspended for 1 year.

That shouldn't matter. Even if a person only wants to hire people of one race, that should be legal. If you don't agree, then you're disagreeing with a basic human right.

And we're talking about private companies here. If my private company won't hire people with braids, they could always go somewhere else.

Discounting average people as Nazis is one of the reasons Trump won.

No. Take a course in Native American history. Your comment is like some ppl comparing the filthy detention cages at the border with Auschwitz and Buchenwald.

It surely is the start of the demise of America. And those "filthy detention cages," as you call them, are the result from the failure of our congress to enforce existing immigration laws.

It wasn't a coach, it was an wrestling official and he was suspended for 1 year.

Those running the league should be able to set the standards.

When I was playing, the coaches set the standards so the officials didn't have to address such things.

Most High Schools and Colleges have input into the NCAA; but the NCAA is the deciding entity.

Then their shouldn't be a problem with the official's decision.

I've coached at many levels. The referees made the final decision.

His "decision" was not within the NCAA Guidelines and that's why he was suspended for 1 year.

Another freedom taken from us. A private business should be free to refuse service or employment to anyone for any reason.

AP said:
july 3 2019 SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law Wednesday a bill making California the first state to ban workplace and school discrimination against black people for wearing hairstyles such as braids, twists and locks.

The law by Democratic Sen. Holly Mitchell of Los Angeles, a black woman who wears her hair in locks, makes California the first state to explicitly say that those hairstyles are associated with race and therefore protected against discrimination in the workplace and in schools.

“We are changing the course of history, hopefully, across this country by acknowledging that what has been defined as professional hair styles and attire in the work place has historically been based on a Euro-centric model — based on straight hair,” Mitchell said.

A solution to a non-problem.
