charlottesville police

The violence was choreographed. But the hand full of locals were not in on the plan and one found herself in a very wrong place at the very worst time.

Another under-reported story is mcaullife lying about a weapons cache. He was also contradicted by the cops when he said 'the cops were out-gunned'---and he used that excuse for a justification to stand them down.

Jeff Sessions? Make yourself useful for a change.

Apparently they could not arrest anyone without a direct order from the mayor. Shockingly enough they could not even stop the car that was used to ram people because they did not have a direct order from the mayor.

Bee Ess.

"Despite the critique by some that police didn’t do enough to quell violence, both police Chief Al Thomas and city spokeswoman Miriam Dickler said no such order was issued. We filed a FOIA seeking any records documenting such an order by either the city, or by any agency outside the city to Charlottesville police and received this response:
We have no records responsive to this request.

Dickler explained to us why the claim that the mayor issued a stand-down order which police were required to obey is not possible: The city operates under a council-manager form of municipal government, meaning the city manager functions as the executive. Under this system, the mayor is selected by the City Council, not voters. The role rotates and is mostly ceremonial in its duties. Thus, Charlottesville Mayor Michael Signer would not have had the authority to issue a “stand-down” order to the police."

I'm just one of those foreign sorts, who is under educated in the ways of the American justice system, so could some helpful American citizen tell me if the local police do actually take their orders to uphold law and order from the local mayor?

This does seem a little odd to this foreign cove.

Omg, you can see the cops just standing there while the 'violence from many sides' was going on. If the cops weren't stood down they should be fired for incompetence.

State police ordered. Local were the mayors doing but he and McAuliffe were operating hand in hand. Nothing was done to prevent violence, only to try and contain once it got going. They got the outcome they planned.
