AI is currently primarily bullshit. It's on the "Hype Cycle". Give it a few years when it actually comes into its own (and isn't just a glorified Markov Chain generator on steroids) and then we'll see the real stuff.

Of course then it will be too late for us and we'll be well and truly screwed, but it will be amazing.

That's a stupid statement. It's a system that processes information in such a way that even the coders who made the thing don't fully understand how it is doing its work. So how "knowledgeable" can you be on that sort of thing?
