They don't need our forgiveness, Brother Leon. Their sins are forgiven - and enabled - by their Savior.

Their imaginary moral leader lets them get away with immorality?
That's so messed up.

Their imaginary moral leader lets them get away with immorality? That's so messed up.

That's what they tell themselves, Brother Leon.

They sin, he forgives and wipes away the sin, they sin again, he forgives and wipes the sin away again...and again. Always. Forever.

They teach each other that his mercy is everlasting.

A man is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy investigators say he mentored at a church.

Jacob Allen Smith, 24, was arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Smith met the boy at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte, according to Capt. Mark Bollinger, a Rock Hill Police spokesman. He is accused of sexually abusing the teen on three occasions.

“His entire life is built around contact with juveniles,” the victim’s mother said. “He waited until he had built trust with myself and his victims before he precipitated this action. He could be in the process of grooming other victims, and releasing him would give him the opportunity to continue that grooming.

“No amount of bond can or will ensure the safety of my son or any other kids,” she continued, “and he is a threat to public safety.”

Rev. Larry Lacivita, executive pastor at Steele Creek Church, said they were aware of Smith’s arrest .

“He did not mentor anyone here. He hasn’t mentored anyone here at all,” Lacivita said.

Smith volunteers in a security capacity on Sundays. Each child in the church’s child care center, and their parent receives a matching tag. Lacivita said Smith’s job is to stand at the bottom of the stairwell leading to the child care area and check tags to verify each parent is taking the correct child after services.

Lacivita said Smith was screened in August 2012, and church officials found “no red flags, whatsoever.”

Residents of a Kentucky county are rallying and working frantically to repair and replace a Memorial Day cross display that was damaged by a driver accused of plowing through the crosses.

The cross display in Central Park in Henderson, which is about 130 miles west of Louisville, honors the names of more than 5,000 who served in conflicts dating back to the Revolutionary War.

"It has really upset the entire community," said Jennifer Richmond, a spokeswoman for the Henderson city police department. "This is something you don't do. This is a form of desecration. These people served their country and then someone disrespected their memory in this way, and it's just totally unacceptable."

The names on the crosses, she said, represent soldiers who died in conflicts or veterans who returned home and later passed, all from the city and county of Henderson. Volunteers and the American Legion put the crosses up in May each year for a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony.

Police got a call just before 6 a.m. Saturday, Richmond said, alerting them that someone had driven through the display at the park.

"Our officers got there and saw that someone drove right through the crosses and essentially plowed them down," Richmond said.

Surveillance footage from nearby, she said, showed a late 1970s model Ford Thunderbird driving on a sidewalk.

The vehicle description, along with Facebook posts from concerned community members, led police to Anthony Burrus, a 27-year-old Henderson resident.

Burrus has been charged with criminal mischief in the first degree and leaving the scene of an accident. Online jail records do not list an attorney for him.

Some of the crosses were embedded in the tires of his vehicle, she said. Police don't know if he deliberately drove over the plastic crosses, she said.

"He said he didn't do it. He admitted to driving the vehicle in the morning but would not state that he drove through the park. But the evidence is in his car tires."

An estimated 160 crosses need to be repaired or replaced.

"We're hoping to have all of them replaced by Monday," said Richmond, who has relatives honored by crosses in the park. "But we don't know right now."

Richard Huckle was "a constant groomer " who pretended to be a Christian philanthropist while in fact basing "his whole life around the sexual abuse of children", investigators said.

The depraved predator began his obscene crimes when he was just 19, and was so "conniving" he managed to get away without detection for nine years, during which time he had raped and abused dozens of children, one just six months-old.

Huckle was so confident that he put together a pedophile guide on how to select victims and avoid detection, and bragged on abuse forums on the Dark Web about how one three-year-old girl was as loyal to him as a dog.

He presented an image as a respectable English teacher, targeting impoverished children, in particular in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

When the Goldsboro, N.C., resident spotted the freezer at her neighbor's yard sale last month, she thought she was getting a good deal. The neighbor was charging $30 for a deep freezer with a hinged lid — the kind of freezer large enough for someone to climb inside.

But the neighbor said there was a caveat, she recalled to WNCN. She couldn't start using the freezer immediately because the neighbor had promised to lend it out to her church's Sunday school class for a "time capsule" project.

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, says her neighbor told her the church would come to pick up the items inside the freezer, which was sealed shut with duct tape. Afterwards, the buyer was supposed to get the freezer back.

So the woman waited.

Three weeks passed; the church members never came.

"Nothing was adding up, so I started to become suspicious about it," the woman told WRAL.

She was keeping the freezer plugged in the corner of a spare bedroom, alongside houseplants, an armchair, a vacuum cleaner and spare toiletries. Last Friday, she peeled off the duct tape and looked inside.

The first things the woman saw were a green sheet and a bag of Kitty Litter, she told WTVD.

Then, her eyes landed on a human foot.

"I saw toes and a foot and ankle," the woman said. She slammed the freezer shut.

It must be fake, she thought to herself, opening the lid again.

This time, she was sure it was real.

"My heart went into my throat," the woman told WRAL. She ran out of the house and called 911.

"I have a serious problem," she told the 911 dispatcher. "My neighbor sold me a deep freezer. I just opened it and there's a body in there I think."

"Your neighbor sold it to you?" the dispatcher asked.

"I am freaking out," she responded, short of breath.

"I understand ma'am," said the dispatcher. "Your neighbor sold it to you?"

"Yes," she said.

The Goldsboro Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday that an autopsy confirmed the freezer indeed contained human remains. The body belonged to a Goldsboro resident, but her identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified, police said.

The medical examiner determined that there were no signs of foul play and her death was natural. The police are investigating. Concealing the death of a person is a felony and disposal of bodies is controlled by state hygiene and environmental laws.

While the name of the original freezer owner has not been released, the woman who bought the freezer has a strong and disturbing suspicion: that her neighbor dumped her own mother's dead body inside the freezer.

The woman told WNCN that her neighbor's elderly mother had lived with her, but she hadn't seen her since last September, when the mother had a stroke.

The mother had interacted with the woman when she was sick, she told WTVD: "I recognized the foot. It was her mother's foot."

Other neighbors said the freezer seller has since moved to West Virginia, where she told people she was visiting her mother at a nursing home.

"I think maybe the daughter was dependent on the mother's check and didn't know what else to do," the woman told WRAL.

Speaking to WTVD, she said: "I'm glad that I was the one who was chosen to be able to find her mother so that poor woman can rest."
