CNBC correspondent muses on Trump's mental health: 'He did not look well to me'

Why don't you prove it then?

Ron Jr. is not a doctor and his moonbat hate rants are not medical diagnoses.

Just because you don't like Ron Jr. doesn't mean he couldn't notice and assess changes in his father over time.

"Even before Ronald Reagan became the oldest elected president, his mental state was a political issue. His adversaries often suggested his penchant for contradictory statements, forgetting names and seeming absent-mindedness could be linked to dementia...

Now a clever new analysis has found that during his two terms in office, subtle changes in Mr. Reagan’s speaking patterns linked to the onset of dementia were apparent years before doctors diagnosed his Alzheimer’s disease in 1994...

Visar Berisha and Julie Liss, professors of speech and hearing science at the university, compared transcripts of all 46 news conferences that Mr. Reagan held to the 101 sessions President George H. W. Bush held in his term. The researchers assessed changes in the presidents’ speech patterns with a new algorithm based on a technique used by others to analyze changes in writing by novelists. In an interview, Dr. Berisha said he did not set out to study Mr. Reagan, but found he was the only individual with progressive dementia for whom long-term transcript information is publicly available. He chose Mr. Bush because he was most comparable in age to Mr. Reagan at the start of their presidencies, and both men served during roughly the same decade...

The researchers found no changes in the speaking patterns of Mr. Bush, who is not known to have developed Alzheimer’s. But in Mr. Reagan’s speech, two measures — use of repetitive words, and substituting nonspecific terms like “thing” for specific nouns — increased toward the end of Mr. Reagan’s presidency, compared with its start. A third measure, his use of unique words, declined...

"Reagan’s doctors said much the same thing while he was in office despite the former president’s memory lapses and bouts of confusion in public, most visibly during the 1984 presidential debates and his 1990 Iran-Contra testimony. Incidents such as these led to speculation that he was undergoing a gradual mental decline that those around him didn’t want to admit. A 1987 article in the New Republic posed the troubling question outright: “Is Reagan Senile?”

That was precisely what CBS News reporter Lesley Stahl was asking herself during a 1986 visit with a president she would later describe in her 2000 memoir, Reporting Live, as “shriveled” and verging on catatonic.

Reagan didn’t seem to know who I was,” she wrote. “He gave me a distant look with those milky eyes and shook my hand weakly. Oh, my, he’s gonzo, I thought.” But a few minutes later, he snapped out of it and from that point on seemed perfectly fine. When asked, White House aides admitted to Stahl that they had witnessed similar episodes."

Ronnie staff wrote books telling all. They claimed he had clear slippage. Some claimed Nancy was acting as president. Fuck the Reagans were big into astrology, that should tell you something. They had June Quigly inside the whitehouse telling him when he should have meeting to line up with the stars.

Sounds very much like Trump. I've noticed in watching videos (thankfully with the sound turned off), that his gait sometimes resembles that of a dementia patient as well. They tend to have a shambling sort of gait, a bit hunched over, and stiffness in the upper torso/arms. When closely surrounded by other ppl, it's not as apparent. But it definitely is when he's walking alone.

I also read this in one of the articles.

"...depending on the level of support people have in organizing their daily lives, early symptoms of Alzheimer's may go unnoticed, Loewenstein said.

"A lot of people in very high positions -- not just presidents -- are surrounded by people who organize their lives and cover for them," Loewenstein said. "I've seen cases where people are, frankly, demented and actually very impaired in doing their job, but they're covered for so successfully by their staff."

I have seen it among elderly friends..

And over here, with my husband's mom. We took her with us to Alaska in 2007. I had known him less than a year at that point, and only met her a couple of times as we lived several hours apart by highway. Although she seemed bright and with-it 95% of the time, there were odd lapses. For instance, she would be peeling potatoes for supper and put the paring knife down on the counter and couldn't find it a few minutes later. Same with her purse... twice she was very upset that she'd lost it, and it turned out to be sitting on her bedside table where she'd left it. A couple other times she got lost in small gift shops and couldn't find her way out, and seemed puzzled at the things in her basket. Since we were relatively new to each other, and I to her son, I hesitated to say something to him about my observations. In addition, his dad/her husband of 50+ yrs had passed the year before; we all know how depression can affect our cognition.

But that changed when we got home. She had driven to St. Louis and left her car at our house. She was frantic when it was time to drive back to Illinois, that she would get lost. She *knew* the darkness was closing in at times. We drew her a map (simple... she only had to switch highways once). She was still frightened, so we had her follow us in her car and guided her to the first highway. She vanished! We had no idea where she went; she had no cell phone either. It turned out that she went west instead of east.... by almost 50 miles, then suddenly the fog lifted and she reversed course and remembered how to get home. I told him of my earlier observations and that it might be time to alert the family to start keeping a closer eye on her.... she lived alone in the family farm house, but did babysit the close-by grandkids daily. They started noticing lapses too, including leaving the stove burners on. Eventually she entered a skilled nursing facility, in 2011. This dear soul passed last year.... 10 years after we noticed the decline.

If indeed Trump is in the early to mid-stages of dementia, his ppl are covering up for him. We can only hope for the sake of our country that they are decent and honorable ppl. Given his history of poor choices, though... frankly, I am terrified.

Quite true; I was a dementia care nurse. Quite often the spouse/family will "cover" for the afflicted soul. It's done out of love, kindness and probably fear as well. In addition, if the afflicted person is kept close to his/her familiar environment, it's harder for a casual observer to notice anything off. (Like when my MIL was on vacation with us, she seemed more impaired and "lost" than she did in her farm house). Many of our family members reported that they first began to notice problems when their mom/dad/spouse was out in a restaurant or some other public and non-familiar place.

Nancy was an astrology nut.
Ronnie was so out of it he went along with what ever "mommy" said.

I have an acquaintance who was telling the same story every single day five or six times.. 18 months later he was diagnosed with ALZ.
