They were always obsessed with case counts.

It’s why I started the Death by Corona threads. It’s morbid, but the death count is all that really matters.

Unless one advocates putting us on the brink of a Depression over numbers of infections.

Your faith in spot-testing is misplaced.

Some good studies have shown that a significant number of COVID infections result in mild and even no symptoms. Those individuals belong in the statistics just as much as nursing home residents with two life threatening underlying conditions.

The only way to find an actual number is to start mass serum antibody testing. It would be kind of nice to know the actual COVID mortality rate if we’re all going to be standing in bread lines by this time next year.

I think some of them are slow to realize the prospect of bread lines is much, much, greater than 2 million US Corona deaths.

Maybe at some point they’ll get past thinking about Trump and the next election.

Not exactly, people would quite readily make the private decision of depression causing behavior (avoidance etc)
even if this illness only caused the mewling puking gagging weeks on end suffering and hospitalization
without death, I think. You are downplaying the suffering when you simply do a body count.

People hate to suffer and die. Not just the latter. Judging from the hospital photos, these chronic cases are not
happy people, even when they live through it.

Why do you think spot-testing is misplaced? Are you advocating no testing at all and just letting the virus run it's natural course? A form of viral eugenics?

Agreed that most COVID-19 cases are mild. IIRC, about 80% are mild, about 20% severe and 1% fatal. Of course, 1% in a population of 327M is 3.27M. A significant number I certain we can hit given the nation takes your and Teflon Don's advice to ignore medical advice and just let this virus run it's course.

TBH, while I have vulnerable family members, I've faced death so many times that I just follow the Serenity Prayer and not worry about what happens. Que sera, sera, ya' know. :)

The 1% number is almost certainly off because they are *literally guessing* at the number of individuals that have had mild/no symptoms since the virus got here. And that was almost certainly before the first confirmed case in Seattle.

1% is very likely on the high end. At minimum, it’s counterintuitive to think a dangerous virus is going have little to no effect on such a large number of people.

Spot tests are great—but only because it’s the only thing we have to go on in the short term.

Frankly, I don't even agree with your supposition that the perception of low risk of mortality from Covid 19 is good for Trump.
Trump will be judged by what he did and didn't do, and what he does or doesn't do going forward.

Agreed with the caveate that a person isn't elderly or whose health is compromised. What you and I are talking about is the difference between preventing needless deaths or just practice viral eugenics; letting nature run it's course. There are valid arguments for both positions even though it may involve up to 3M American deaths.
