I realize I’m just a simple newspaper columnist, but it seems having a lame-duck U.S. president openly advocating a coup is a really bad and insane thing, yet the people who most loudly call themselves patriots don’t appear to give a whit.

1) Joe Biden clearly and unequivocally won the 2020 presidential election.
2) The loser, President Donald Trump, refuses to acknowledge his loss and is goading Republican state legislators to find ways to subvert the election results, all while filing dozens upon dozens of frivolous lawsuits that have all been dismissed because they are baseless, preposterous and grounded in unhinged speculation.

The conclusion is: WHAT IN THE NAME OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY IS WRONG WITH YOU REPUBLICANS?!??!
Let’s set aside the obvious fact that if a Democrat pulled an autocratic stunt like this, every Republican, all of their family members and probably most of their pets would be running around like their hair was on fire, screaming, “TYRANNY!!!”
That would be, and I can’t stress this enough, an entirely reasonable reaction.
That’s why there are people like me, and plenty of other Americans paying attention to Trump’s postelection crapnado of nonsense, who feel like our heads are going to explode because few if any sane Republicans are standing up and saying: “Hey, this is bonkers, deeply embarrassing and unconscionably bad for the stability of our democracy. Knock it off.”

Let's not set that aside.

Trump is crazed worse than normal. He was giving the medal of freedom to the Olympic wrestler Dan Gable. A reporter asked him about conceding and Trump stomped out. Gable stood by himself with his arms out with a what do I do now attitude. Trump is a child.

"Do not concede under ANY circumstances!" ~ from the original 4-year long foot stomping tantrum-throwing election result denier, Hilly.

it is not hard to believe trump and his high school dropout voters might try to believe this election was rigged, they are stupid as shit and pretty proud of it, but the number of elected republicans who know better but still try to act like they believe this shit, or at least won't stand up and condemn it, is sickening and does not bode well for this country. for one party to constantly put their own political or economic gain above doing what is right and what is best for the country is a dangerous, dangerous threat to our democracy and democratic ideals.

try quoting her exactly, stupid shit...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton has a piece of advice for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden: Whatever happens, do not concede defeat on the night of the Nov. 3 election.

Clinton conceded defeat on the night of the election in 2016 but said the shift to mail-in voting due to the coronavirus pandemic means it could take longer to know the winner in November.

She said this year’s election day results might point to Trump having a narrow advantage. But in that case, Clinton said, “Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances because I think this is going to drag out.”

see how smart she is? she called it....the delay between states counting election day votes and counting mail in votes caused asshole trump to have a lead on election night, but after all the votes were counted, getting his chickenshit ass kicked.

Not to mention bad for the Republican Party.

Are they TRYING to destroy all credibility the party ever had?

If so, they're doing a good job!

What's good for the goose is..............etc. etc. etc.

did you read the part where she conceded the night of the election, even though in Pennsylvania, out of about 5 million votes, she only lost by 10,000 (Trump lost by 150,000)? it is one thing to contest really close elections thru the legal process, like she did in Wisconsin even after she conceded, but another to just spew bullshit about how the election was rigged, but only in the states he lost by a smaller margin than others!!

I posted about 2 months before the election that I dreaded the result because the loser was going to whine about cheating.

JPP has posters still claiming Kerry won 2004 but was cheated in Ohio (exit polls and a Republican with shares in the voting machines)

Others still claim Obama did not really win 2012 (Trump)

"About 20 minutes after polls closed on the West Coast, television networks called the election for President Obama. Like Karl Rove, who'd just been told that Fox News had called Ohio against the Republican, Trump was incredulous. "He lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election," he tweeted. "We should have a revolution in this country!"

Over the next half hour, he continued.

The phoney electoral college made a laughing stock out of our nation. The loser one! We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!
Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us. More votes equals a loss ... revolution! This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy! Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble ... like never before. The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy."

Hello Micawber,

They only care about inside cred. That means fact void absolute obedience. If they shed cultists, regrettable, but Trump only wants pure Trumpskateers,
even if it is just 1 left in the end. He can only fleece marks. The rest of us are like cops. His base think they are early in one a Ponzi scheme, but
they are simply marks. He is fleecing his own tribe. Let him bleed their stupid asses to death.

i agree the electoral college process is outdated and is not necessary now, if it ever was. I do not see why the whole election process is not completely updated to reflect and use technological advances we have that were not around even in the 1990's. Like maybe when you register to vote, you create a pin, that will allow you to vote online on specially protected safe servers. or maybe even an eye scan or fingerprint scan for voter id online. and when you vote, you get a number, and you have to either call or go online and be able to repeat that number to verify your vote, and those replies are counted, too. and all voting supervised by paid, professional experts selected by both parties.

Pillory Hillary for being right?

Because updating the whole process would diminish the Republicans unfair advantage. Sacred cows live long, but they do eventually die.
If I identified my politics by my race or real estate holdings, I'd defend the electoral college too. It's sensible that they do so, but only in a power sense,
not a equitable fair or just sense. Our framers wrote a whorehouse deal to get it done. We lost in that deal and are stuck with it until
overwhelming numbers allow an amendment.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin on Thursday urged the U.S. Supreme Court to reject a lawsuit filed by Texas and backed by President Donald Trump seeking to undo President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory, saying the case has no factual or legal grounds and offers “bogus” claims.

...

Legal experts have said the Texas lawsuit has little chance of succeeding and have questioned whether Texas has the legal standing to challenge election procedures in other states."
