Didn't some liberals claim Trump blew the possibility of the summit

OK...go with that. The rest of us will deal in facts.

Complex issue for sure, but don't be like trump, and simply parrot nonsense because it makes your side look good.

This link references both issues I mentioned.

Trade Balance

  • The U.S. goods trade deficit with Canada was $17.5 billion in 2017, a 59.7% increase ($6.5 billion) over 2016.
  • The United States has a services trade surplus of an estimated $26 billion with Canada in 2017, up 8.0% from 2016.

/boggle.....lots of plumbers crossed the border to fix leaking pipes?......

You have on .gov site that says one thing, I have one .gov site that says another. They both however agree on the goods deficit. Perhaps we need to manufacture automatic baby seal clubbing and skinning machines.......might even up the goods trade.
Do they do that in Canada?

Why should we ignore one aspect of trade, just to make the numbers look one way or another? We clearly have a trade surplus with Canada...trump's moronic base bait notwithstanding.

One thing lost in trade discussions on the import side is that these are private decision of the businesses and end consumers on what we purchase and for how much. They don’t have a gun to anyone’s head saying you must buy this in Italy for this price. We are buying foreign goods because we want to and we think the price is ok, tax or no tax. It’s not tied to the exports when I decide to buy that Rolex. If it costs too much I can choose a timex or bulova instead.
Even more complex, is our history of agreeing to trade practices that might not look beneficial to us on the surface, but our foreign policy goals are factored into the trade deals when we need to put military bases on holy grounds, or in hotspots in Europe.

Really? Cite some examples of this.
