Wrong. The only purpose of most humanities depts. is to provide easy classes for those who want to pad their GPA or lazy fucks who are on a vacation for a few years while their parents foot the bill.
As far as learning a foreign language I consider college or h.s. classes to be useless because rote memory of dialogues is no way to learn a language.

The German people lived for centuries in a loose confederation known as the Holy Roman Empire.

America itself was just 13 independent states, or a loose confederation of states until the constitution was adopted.

You don't ignore the history of the American people prior to 1789 or the history of the German people prior to 1871 just because they evolved politically from a loose confederation to a nation-state.

The American colonies were settled by British settlers who brought with them English customs, English tradition, English law, English political philosophy. All of which forms a backdrop to the independent United States of America in the late 1700s.

They had no cultural, historical, political, or linguistic connection to hunter-gatherers from Siberia
