Emmy Awards roasted for mocking Middle America

Hollywood may have laughed when Emmys host Michael Che said the only white people who thank Jesus are "Republicans and ex-crackheads," but Tinseltown's latest middle finger to Middle America fell flat in flyover country, and may have contributed to the telecast's all-time low viewership.

Co-host Michael Che left many viewers of the 70th Annual Emmy Awards upset during the opening monologue with his fellow "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost, explaining that his mother would not be watching the show on Monday night.

"She says she doesn’t like watching white award shows because you guys don’t thank Jesus enough," Che said. "That’s true. The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads."

The joke didn't sit well with some viewers, who took to Twitter to complain. Not only that, the show’s ratings dropped 10 percent from last year's already-dismal numbers, setting an all-time low, according to TheWrap.

While many viewers may have changed the channel after the opening monologue, jabs at average Americans were far from over and the Jesus gag became a running theme throughout the evening.

Conservative strategist Chris Barron told Fox News that

Barron said.

He didn't say middle America he said white people.

Middle America = white people.

fox teaches white people to hate non white people

only stupid white people fall for that propaganda

That is about money. Are you saying that black children in, say, Louisiana, are stupid? Or are you saying they don't have equal access to quality education?

This is about ignorant, racist stupid whites.......not Blacks.

Leave us out of this.

The joke said "white America"

Stop trying to insinuate dumb, racist, ignorant whites are still smarter than Blacks........

I made no such insinuation. Confirmation bias is a powerful mind-fuck.

I'm not sure it so much stupid,as Foxes tells their viewers what they want to believe.
If they told them the facts,Fox's viewer base would tune out.

If flyover country conservatives don't need ridiculing, I can't imagine who does.

Let's knock off the Pollyanna shit.

The awards shows are for Coastal America.

Middle America is not only an entirely different social culture,
but the values of Middle America and Coastal America are completely repugnant to one another.

That's the Achilles' heel of the Republic.

It's comprised of people who honestly dislike one another.

it's almost like instead of forcing one thing on each other we should go back to a loose confederation of states with a minimally intrusive federal government that keeps it's role limited to treaties, defense, and perhaps economic stuff. I wish someone thought of that idea

That will never happen,if anything the Federal Government will grow stronger and the states weaker.

Conservatives are just thinned skin, this whole middle America martyr theme is an excuse because they don't like the humor.

Sections of the country do vary, I live in the NorthEast and it is definitely different than the majority of America, but it is not only entire sections that are different, but areas within each section. Rural and urban are probably more defining than coastal/middle sections. Technically, Chicago is middle America, Atanta and Austin the deep South, but I'd have to say all those locations have more in common with the coastal regions than the theme middle America

And as a side note, the NorthEast is the only place I'd rather live, been elsewhere, and nothing compares to it
