End of the line for noted traitor Robert E Lee

intersting on Johnson, Been awhile but maybe i'll look into it. But Lee was also a strategist as you say
he knew he had to win or hold out. That;s why he was General of the Army of Northern Virginia then

The Army of Northern Virginia was the most successful Confederate army during the American Civil War (1861–1865). With Robert E. Lee at its head,

See thats the problem. Lee knew that but failed to tailor his strategy to that fact. You say its successful because he "won" most battles. Phyrus also "won" a lot of battles against the romans but greece was conquered faster because he ended up killing his army base. Look at Lees battles. They are won by outmaneuvering but when your doing that your also allowing the opponent to fight from prepared positions while you attack the flank of that position exposed. Meaning if you do "win" your still taking massive casualties which the north could afford a lot better than the south. Whereas Johnston moved from prepared position to prepared positoin ultimately only losing because politicians in the south forced him to attack.

sure Lee used the European battlefield strategy of retreat and maneuver counteratack.
Johnson sounds like a damn devious yankee fighting from position to position

No he wasnt. He was a dumb tactician. I think the best the South had was Joseph Johnston. The problem with Lee is he knew that the problem the south had was with manpower. Yet he ended up killing as many of his own men in his "victories" as his opponent. This is why he lost to Grant who just kept throwing reserves at him. Johnston though new how to trade space for time and get the maximum value out of every life lost. Remember the south was just playing for time for the Europeans to help and/or the north to get tired of war.

Interesting fact is that Lincoln chose Lee to be his General over Grant, but Lee refused, citing his loyalty to the state of Virginia rather than the nation.
Of course, we know the Civil War ended and our nation remained intact. Until recently, no one was "offended" by monuments of Civil War notables from
either side. Why have they become "offended" now?

You can't think worth a toss, you unctuous cretin. Ordinary people, primarily, go to war for their territory, not for political doctrines. You're a conditioned simpleton.

there is no relationship between my post and your slobber you inbreed toothless wonder.

to be fair at the start of the war Grant was effectively a nobody. If were being honest Lincoln got pretty far down the bench before Grant was tapped and only because of his successes out west.

Ignorance and indoctrination. And Commies.

Agreed.

But the question remains why some have just recently become so "offended" by monuments of this nation's history.
There are many vehicles with Confederate flag plates and stickers all over up North here in PA.
Should I (having ancestors who fought for the North) be "offended" and try to tear them off those vehicles because
some "snowflakes" are all of a sudden "offended"?

Fuck the book-burning snowflakes! Somebody's feeding them a line of shit somewhere, though.

Maybe lack of American History being taught or revisionist American History textbooks. It has to be something like that, no?

You know all the textbook publishers are Communists, right?

Still nothing is being done to stop the Communist indoctrination in the schools.

The Palestinians are the country's blacks being abused by the fascist Izraeli white invaders. Not that any information will ever penetrate your conditioning.
Now off you go and sing ' Amazing Grace ' along with the other hypocritical casuists.

Your head is really hurting. If the Pallies stop the rockets and bombings and knives they will be enfolded into Israeli prosperity. No other way.

You must be drinking the same revisionist swill as Moon.

General Lee wasn't a traitor. It's misinformation at best and a flat out lie at worst to claim he was.

Many African-American leaders voiced opposition to removing statues. They think it's better to use them as teaching tools. George Santayana once wrote "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". Erasing the history won't destroy racism and it's foolish to think it will.

Several black leaders agree with Santayana: https://apnews.com/c5867a51705242909b304af5ff85b89f
Lassiter’s wife, Mary Louise Lassiter, 81, a prominent activist in Loudoun County and former local NAACP chapter president wants the statue to stay and for visitors to understand the pain slaves went through on courthouse grounds.

“When they’re told, hopefully they’ll understand the torture of all of those people who were put in those stocks.”

Formerly A Slave Market, Now a Favorite Lunch Spot
The square where the statue sits operated as a slave market throughout of the Civil War. Today the statue is surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops, a bar and the original courthouse. Government employees often lunch feet away from where whipping posts, cages and auction blocks once stood.

Statues are commemorative things - they're really meant more to honor.

We don't generally have statues of history's villains, right?

I just started a thread under the heading 'Statues'. The great point about most of them is that they are not very historical, just stuck up much, much later for political purposes. Compared with many, Lee had his good points, but, in general, the artistic quality of public monuments is not such as to justify offending anyone who lives thereabouts, and pro-Southern-breakaway statues have that fault. If people think they are historically important, put 'em in museums.
