Finally some judicial sanity on Civil War memorials.

Confederates didn't refer to themselves as Americans. They referred to themselves as Virginians, Carolinians, Georgians, Floridians, etc. Looks like you fail.

:indeed:

And those from others states referred to themselves as Kentuckians, Ohioans, etc.

Please put more effort into your attempts to justify your conclusions. :palm:

I'm fine with a museum personally. But destroying statues is erasing the past and tradition. It's what ISIS does. It's superstitious. It's based on presentism, a false conception of history.

I think the issues with the statues stems from the fact that they aren't war memorials. There are memorials to the men who were lost during that time in towns all over the place. I would have no problems with that at all, but some of these statues of the Generals seem to be glorifying the war. That's my opinion on the whole thing. History can be remembered in many ways, not just with statues.

Agree. I don't want to see Civil War statues destroyed. Many of them are works of art. Put them in the history section of the local museum instead. Those who find them offensive are free to avoid that section; those who want to admire them are free to do so as well.

Part of being public is risking exposure to things you disagree with lol.

Practically all of the civil war monuments have been in place for many decades but it’s only been recently that they’ve become a rallying point for SJW’s. I’m glad the South lost the civil war but I’m still able to perceive the monuments as a reminder of this country’s history—warts and all. Our history is part of who we are as a nation.

It’s not that hard to do. Why other people struggle with it is a mystery to me.

The only reason you defend the Confederate Monuments is because you need to sanitize and glorify the traitors, losers, and racists with whom you share all the same values.

No one wants to ignore our history but there is an inherent disrespect when said monuments are in the town square. Put them in a museum or a confederate cemetery.

Then write a tersely worded letter to your city council members lol.

Lefties and their non-issues.

It seems to me there's a genuine problem. For most people the Confederacy was an illegal conspiracy to keep a lot of people working for nothing, on racist grounds; for many Southerners it was a courageous war of independence in which a great many non-slave-owners fought and died. Naturally, statues of its heroes give mortal offense to the descendants of those they enslaved, and others. Might I suggest that real (Nineteenth Century, say) historical monument be moved to museums and kept safe there? It seems to me that it's where they belong.
Nah, they need to stay where they are. Those statues are historical figures and serve as reminders of where we've been, not where we're going. If anything they should stay up to serve as reminders of where not to return.

Of course, it would feel so much more like progress if democrats would stop grooming black America for votes. ;)

It's only a matter of time before these racist "monuments" are torn down, as America changes with the demographic shift, we are seeing it happen all over America now

What if the majority of citizens want the monument to stay in place? Are you saying the majority doesn't rule?

You forgot one thing,a State is also part of the USA.That these treason dogs tried to split apart.
You just can't comprehend celebrating treasonous bastards is wrong.

As usual you have it wrong. The southerners did not commit treason, per the definition. Look up the definition. But I wouldn't expect you to understand a simple concept.

In that event, they head to the courts and frame it as ‘rights’ issue lol.

The lefties fight to win, you have to give them that much.
