Florida Stand Your Ground Law Causing Needless Deaths - part deux

USFREEDOM911

MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
The law was championed by the NRA, and it is accelerating the use of guns.

People are dying for stupid reasons.

Texting in a movie theater.

Parking in a handicapped space.

The problem is not people acting stupidly. That is going to happen anyway.

The problem is the law.

This is a bad law.

It allows people to provoke confrontations, and then kill when they 'feel threatened.' All over something stupid.

We need better laws.

This kind of lawmaking is irresponsible.

I give Florida Republicans a zero for responsible lawmaking.

All they did was give in to Marion Hammer and the NRA, and give the NRA everything it wants.

Lawmakers need to be responsible to the people. This law disregards lives.

'Stand your ground' is a bad law. It needs to go.

It is getting people killed over stupid stuff.

Who was shot for parking in a handicapped space??

As a young Marine I often carried a firearm in public (out in the civilian sector) in the performance of my duties. Before Zimmerman pretty much what the Marine Corps drilled into my head about use of deadly force was what we discussed on the firearms forums I hung out on. I don't believe in shooting people to protect private property unless that property can save lives, such as F-18's or ambulances, otherwise it is appropriate to protect my life or the lives of others. The appropriate use of deadly force is very nuanced, and the conservobots slipped a cog when Martin was murdered by Zimmerman.

You were on point, until you included the liberal lie about Martin being murdered. :palm:

Yea sure, the kid was unarmed. Zimmerman was armed and his job that day was not to have to kill anyone. He didn't have to kill Martin. Zimmerman made that happen. But lets not discuss the past, lets discuss the appropriate use of deadly force.

Seems like he armed himself with a sidewalk and was using in a very aggressive manner and you're the one who brought this up; but if you feel that you need to walk back your comment, it's up to you.

Oh, I am not walking it back, I have thought that situation through completely, Zimmerman never should have gotten out of his SUV. So do you want to discuss that or the use of deadly force?

As I understand it, in Florida I could shoot someone breaking into an empty shed on my property, cause it was on my property. That is not a moral use of deadly force.
Seems in Florida you can pretty much gun someone down and claim standing my ground.

You're "opinion" of any of it, is inconsequential; because Trayvon was the aggressor.

Try to be better.

There is no excuse for what this moron did. Don't defend it just because it's something you perceive as a "cause for lefties." What this man did is pathetic.

I agree, there was no reason for Trayvon to attack Zimmerman.

I didn't think what Zimmerman did was criminal, but he created that situation, and there isn't much defense for his actions. He is the same sort of pathetic coward as the current story highlights. What happened w/ him & Trayvon NEVER needed to happen.

Stop defending and celebrating these cowards.

Martin was unarmed. Zimmerman was instructed to stay in his SUV by dispatch. Z was bigger than Martin. Z was armed. Martin should be alive today.

And once again, Trayvon armed himself with a sidewalk and was using it in an aggressive manner.

:truestory:

I am not talking about criminal or not, I am talking about the ethical use of deadly force.

Perhaps that is a legal excuse to declare Zimmerman not guilty, but ethically it never should have happened. Someday, when we lose our right to carry firearms, I bet the Zimmerman/Martin case will be cited as the beginning of the end. For example. I cannot ethically go downtown, wear my Rolex and fine clothes (I really am pretty cool) and when someone walks up to me demanding my watch I just shoot them for fun. But yet, legally, I would have a very legal argument and might not get found guilty. .

If you want to speak ethics, then Trayvon shouldn't have acted so violently.
