Florida tourism dips as Canadian visitors drop 14 percent

Take away the oil, and the US was ripping off Canada, now that oil is going elsewhere.

Is that so?

The US and Canada have shared an amicable close alliance for over two hundred years, until the fat man occupied the WH, now we are supposedly at war with Canada,

The United States and Canada have a long record of trade disputes stretching back to the 19th century, even while they have remained each other’s largest trading partners.

Many of the same sectors keep recurring.

Early and Depression-era conflicts

The 1854 Reciprocity Treaty (Elgin-Marcy) allowed relatively free trade in agricultural products and natural resources. The United States abrogated it in 1866. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 then imposed steep U.S. duties that hit Canadian exports hard; Canada retaliated, and both economies suffered during the Depression. A 1935 reciprocal agreement later eased some of that friction.

Softwood lumber (the longest-running fight)

This dispute dates to the early 1980s and is often called a series of “lumber wars.” U.S. producers have long argued that Canada’s stumpage fees on Crown land amount to an unfair subsidy. There have been multiple rounds of U.S. antidumping and countervailing duties, Canadian challenges, and temporary settlements (1986, 1996, 2006). The last major Softwood Lumber Agreement expired in October 2015; duties have been in place since then.

Autos, agriculture, and other perennial issues

The 1965 Auto Pact created duty-free trade in vehicles and parts but was later found to violate WTO most-favored-nation rules. Dairy, wheat, tomatoes, potatoes, beef, and other farm products have generated repeated cases under GATT, NAFTA, and USMCA.

he thinks Canada invaded and burned down the WH

Is that so?

People don’t visit places they think they are going to be resented and scorned, and we all know who led the Canadians to think that of us
Well I do agree that people (whether citizens of U.S. or foreigners) certainly aren't going to
visit blue city hellholes where murderers, rapists, and just plain criminals could run roughshod
over them. Who gives a crap if Canadians don't tour and or visit Florida. Floridians don't want
them there anyway.

Is that so?

Poor Anchovies.

Well, the Border Patrol does what they can to keep illegals out, too, and lefties cry about it, don't they?
Certainly. For everyone knows that liberals are more fond of these criminal illegals then they
would ever be for the U.S. victims who have been raped and murdered by biden's illegals. And
to top that off, liberals look to house and put these illegals on the democrap voting list so that
they will get the power to sweep-lead all 3 branches of government so as to enact their anti
American socialist communist agenda.

Poor Anchovies, Earl. I suspect he will be one of the first victims.

You may be onto something.

I hope you have plenty of ammo.

I DO. Woops, I DO were the same words I used in accepting my first wife into a marriage. I've learned to regret that mistake, but having plenty of ammo is nothing
I'll ever regret, especially when we have an entire political party made up of anti American Socialists, Islamists and Commies.
Indeed!

Trump's trade feud with Canada is heating up, but Canadians appear to be cooling on his home state.

Florida saw an estimated 1.68 million Canadian visitors in the first half of 2026, about 270,000 fewer than a year earlier, according to Visit Florida. That 14 percent decline comes after a nearly 7 percent drop in Canadian visitors in 2025.

The Canadian pullback helped push total visitors to Florida down 1.4 percent through the first six months of this year, after the state welcomed the most visitors ever last year.

Florida's tourism marketing agency doesn't offer an explanation for the Canadian drop in its latest estimates, but the trend has coincided with escalating U.S.-Canada tensions since Trump returned to office in early 2025.

That's okay. People moving there from New York will more than make up for lost revenue...
