Florida tourism dips as Canadian visitors drop 14 percent

Trump's trade feud with Canada is heating up, but Canadians appear to be cooling on his home state.

Florida saw an estimated 1.68 million Canadian visitors in the first half of 2026, about 270,000 fewer than a year earlier, according to Visit Florida. That 14 percent decline comes after a nearly 7 percent drop in Canadian visitors in 2025.

The Canadian pullback helped push total visitors to Florida down 1.4 percent through the first six months of this year, after the state welcomed the most visitors ever last year.

Florida's tourism marketing agency doesn't offer an explanation for the Canadian drop in its latest estimates, but the trend has coincided with escalating U.S.-Canada tensions since Trump returned to office in early 2025.

Exactly. trump screwed up the entire U.S. tourism industry last year. It's getting worse, and now all American made liquor is gone from Canadian shelves.

Everything trump touches turns to shit.

I feel for the tourism industry.

But I worked in Florida for 4 or 5 years. It was like a locust invasion when the entitled tourists flooded in.

It was also the first time I heard the joke "If its Tourist Season, why can't we shoot them?".

They melt. They are snow birds.

Most importantly, they are the major source of income for millions of working residents, too.

But trump is doing his best to screw that up.

He knows his dedicated MAGA base will never hold him accountable.

They're too brainless.

They won't be missed. They're bad tippers.

They will be missed...whether they are bad tippers or not. A state like Florida cannot afford to lose the tourist business...PERIOD.

AI Overview

The World Population Review ranks the United States and Canada as the highest-tipping tourist destinations, where restaurant gratuities standardly reach 15% to 20%. [1]

Highest-Tipping Tourist Countries

United States: Standard restaurant tips are 15–20%, and hotel staff expect $2–$5 per day. [1]

Canada: Tipping customs mirror the U.S., with restaurant expectations at 15–20% and hotel tips around $2–$5. [1]

Palestine / Jordan / UAE: Middle Eastern destinations frequently expect robust tourist tipping, with restaurant tips around 10–15% and higher driver/hotel tips. [1]

The framing in the thread is the usual overstated single-cause politics.

Latest estimates show Florida received about 1.68 million Canadian visitors in H1 2026, down ~13.9–14% (~270,000 fewer) from H1 2025.

Q2 was 721,000, down 4.2%.

Total visitors to the state were 73.5 million in H1, down 1.4%.

What Jew?No! "forgot" to mention is the fact that 2025 full-year Canadian numbers were later revised upward to 3.17 million (down ~7% from 2024, not the initial 14.7% estimate).

H1 2026 is still well below the 2019 pre-COVID H1 figure of ~2.29 million.

Domestic (that means Americans, lefties) travelers to Florida account for more than 90% of the total visitors to the Sunshine State.

Overseas visitation held up better than Canadian. That means that visitors for the other 189 countries on the planet are still flocking to Florida, lefties.

The Canuckian drop only appears to matter in specific pockets (Broward “Little Quebec” motels and some Gulf Coast properties, but it is not crashing statewide tourism.

Broader pattern, not Florida-only

Statistics data show a persistent Canadian pullback from U.S. travel that started in 2025 and continued into 2026: fewer trips, shorter stays, lower spending.

That hardly corresponds with the partisan political premise that Jew?No! is pushing.

A cheaper loonie raises the real cost of U.S. hotels, meals, and gas for Canadian visitors. That is one of several factors (along with airfares, inflation, and politics) that has reduced snowbird and leisure travel to Florida.

Border return crossings from the U.S. had an 11-month streak of year-over-year declines (deepest non-COVID stretch on record).

Canadians shifted toward domestic travel and overseas destinations for a variety of reasons, as have Americans.

Similar percentage drops hit Las Vegas and New York. Florida’s decline is only notable mainly because snowbirds stay longer and spend more than average visitors.

Timing lines up with U.S.–Canada tensions. Those may be a factor, and a few Canadians have said so explicitly, but there is no proof that they were being truthful, and the season in months away. It is entirely possible that the commenters were anti-Trump anyway.

It is not the only factor: inflation, airfares, the weak Canadian dollar, post-COVID habit changes, and destination substitution all appear in the reporting. The facts do not attribute a single cause in the latest release.

The thread itself

Started by Jew?No! with the NewsNation/Yahoo piece as its biased basis, replies so far are short and typical for the board, with predictably partisan results.

  • Sloganeering Trump blame (“everything he touches turns to shit,” liquor pulled from Canadian shelves, MAGA won’t hold him accountable).
  • An irrelevant “approval rating in the sewer” closer. Canadians are not US voters (at least not legally) and President Trump is not running for office.

No one in the visible posts grapples with the 2025 season's data revision, the small share of total visitors coming from Canada anyway, the fact that overall tourism is only modestly off a record year, or Statistics Canada’s own broader outbound-shift numbers.

Statewide, Florida tourism remains enormous (143+ million in 2025).

The Canadian slice is only a worry for a few businesses and regions that depend on winter snowbirds fleeing their Great White North's savage winters (or maybe the brown hordes that now call call themselves Canadian), but the winter season ahead hasn't even begun yet.

The 14% figure is not manufactured, but treating it as proof that “Trump wrecked Florida tourism” overstates both the scale and the exclusivity of the cause.

I rate it Guano.

Guano, Florida will fare just fine without the Canadians who think a 5% tip is just fine.

Yeah, they are. AND THEY ARE GOING TO MISS THE CANADIAN TOURISTS. Jesus H. Christ...that is the point many of us are trying to make. Tough thing to do with MAGA morons.

Many of you? You mean the handful of dying Boomers like yourself who infest JPP because they can't find another hobby that isn't free? :rofl2:

How many foreign tourists do you suppose are visiting the once greatest city (N.Y.C), since their socialist mayor has literally destroyed any and all attractions that would have been a tourist attraction? Instead, those capitalist entrepreneurs et al of N.Y.C. have quickly departed that hellhole
to set up base in Florida.

Irrelevant whataboutism.
