George Floyd swallowed drugs in 2019 to avoid arrest. Judge says inadmissable

Bad news. The judge is a blatant white-hating racist. Floyd died of a drug overdose last may so this evidence is very important to the defense.

sep 11 2020 The judge presiding over the trial of four police officers charged in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May has denied a motion to introduce new evidence of a past overdose by Floyd.

Defense attorneys filed a motion earlier this week indicating that they intended to introduce evidence to show that Floyd had been stopped by police in May 2019 under suspicion of selling drugs. The defense suggested that Floyd had “engaged in diversionary behavior such as crying and acted irrationally.” They alleged further that he swallowed the drugs and had to be treated at a local hospital for an accidental drug overdose, and that he admitted abusing drugs regularly.

The defense also wanted to introduce evidence of Floyd’s past arrest for robbery in Harris County, Texas, more than a decade ago.

Judge Peter Cahill denied those motions, according to reporter Callan Gray of KSTP:

Wont matter.
He overdosed as clearly shown in the bloodwork and died of the ensuing heart stoppage.
Whether hes been a junkie for years or not does not alter his cause of death.

So 3 cops couldn't contain one drugged up guy....so then pin him down and crush his throat for 8 minutes, killing him?

Nothing in the police manual that stipulates continued knee pressure several minutes after the suspect has gone limp and unresponsive.

that's manslaughter.....deal with it.

I don't see why that matters. The cops still went beyond too far.

It makes a big difference in what charges can be upheld. For example, right now the charges are that the four committed second degree murder. That is going to be far harder to prove if the defense has a solid case that Floyd was on serious illegal drugs like fentanyl and that played a significant role in his death. All of a sudden, second degree murder is going to be all but impossible to convict on.

Second degree murder is intentional murder without premeditation, which the cops probably wouldn't have gotten either way. It seems pretty clear that they weren't trying to kill Floyd. Manslaughter is a lot more likely.

Many times people on drugs become irrational and super-strong. And Floyd was already a giant. THINK

You should practice what you preach. The video clearly shows Floyd finally subdued, on the ground with a cop on his neck...a simple zip-tie or hand cuffs around his ankles, and all the 3 cops had to do was lift and store him in the back seat of the patrol car. Takes a few moments, and the guy would be alive. This happens in NYC on numerous occasions. Perhaps they should teach around he country.

BTW - has anyone heard any anchor on national tv mention that floyd did 5 years for armed robbery of a woman???

Yep....old news. But since he didn't have a phony $20 (the original accusation) and at the time was guilty of only being high on drugs in public, the cops weren't responding to something that was NOT an outstanding warrant...just a prior record, time served. In this country, you don't get punished twice for an old crime.
