Has a Brexit deal been done?

Oh for somebody with the gravitas of Mrs. T, she'd have handbagged Merkel, Macron and the rest.

Mrs. Thatcher would have have wanted England to have all the benefits of and none of the duties associated with EU membership I would imagine. The thing about today, however, is that the UK has enough slack in its employment rolls that it could weather this thing and come out the other side smelling like a peachy rose if it approached it more like a wartime economy in which people were forced to tighten their belts a little bit, including the government. It was recently announced that a UK company is building a factory here in my part of the American boonies. My first thought was, man their taxes must be out of control if they are willing to come to Redneckerstan, U.S.A. to manufacture.

Ah, I see it was just the Welsh who went along with the English. The EU are clearly stupid, or they wouldn't sacrifice their autonomy to the krauts, given the history.

Like many of my compatriots, all too frequently, you are pissed as a newt.

You see your own polls. inevitably. Foreigners do.

I see the British poll. If they cannot even muster 50% support for remaining in a poll, there is no reason to put faith in their pipe dream of a second referendum. There are people who voted to remain who oppose a second referendum as pointless since the British economy is already impacted and both major parties have divided camps on the issue. In addition, there is no reason to believe that the EU would accept a do-over. At this point, their position seems to be that the UK must be leveled and their lands salted to make sure nobody else even dare think of ever trying to leave the Union. I have seen zero evidence that this will be anything other than a hard Brexit followed by a sub zone to deal exclusively with the Irish issues to keep the republic and northern Ireland functioning in peace and stability. After that, the UK and the EU will just negotiate new trade deals like they would with any other country.

The EU were crowing just days ago that they gave away virtually nothing and still have all the control. I think that they won't change until, like naughty puppies, their noses are rubbed into their mess.

What exactly is 'the British poll'? The ones I see give well over 50% for remain (if the ~EU will have us, which I doubt). Clearly you and your chums believe the EU should pay the drunken tories in free beer forever, and provide Christmas every day, but the average EU taxpayers is somehow against this enlightened proposal. I THINK, HONESTLY, THAT YOU ARE AS PISSED AS EIGHT NEWTS.

Here is a Welsh fool that thinks Wales could survive on its own without the largesse from the English. The only reason the Welsh love the EU is because of all the grants and subsidies they receive. Money, I might add, that come from the UK taxpayers in the first place.

Then provide these well over 50% polls because the numbers I provided was from the most recent poll I could find, not polls two years old

The UK doesn't have the power to do that. Only the US, China, and to some degree Russia could make that happen. This is where I think May messed up. She should have built the illusion that the UK was just going to become little Hong Kong instead of begging and pleading and wafting about. iola can have a full on strop about it if they want, but at this point the ship has sailed on having a soft brexit, let alone remaining.

We do have the power but are afraid to use it. There is absolutely nothing to fear for the UK to trade under WTO rules. We have a £70 billion trade deficit with the EU, does anybody seriously think they will just stop trading with us? The Germans sell us 850,000 cars per year. They would be right totally screwed if we turned from Beemers to Lexus instead. Both Toyota and Nissan have car factories in England and they would be only too happy to ramp up production.

The UK also exports 800K cars to the EU. It is a wash as far as leverage.
