Hong Kong - tip of the spear in China Peoples' REVOLT against Socialist Rule

Bigdog

Harris - make America a 3rd world shithole
"For Sunday, Hong Kong's Civil Human Rights Front — the movement behind record-breaking rallies in June and July — billed a "rational, non-violent" protest in the island's Victoria Park.

"What we are fighting for is democracy and our rights," said Minnie Lee, a 31-year-old logistics worker. "We're not doing anything wrong. If we stop now, things will only get worse."

Despite China's pro Socialist media and one party rule, ... news of the Hong Kong uprising does make it to the mainland thru friends and relatives.

China has grown its Middle class over the decades, and that could come back to bite the Socialist gov't in the arse, if China's economy goes South and they start losing their jobs and businesses.

The new middle class are not going to go quietly back to a subsistence living on farms. They are educated, brave, and have tasted the greatness of capitalism and personal autonomy.

Have our domestic socialist/democrat contenders made any comments about what’s going on with Hong Kong and China?

They see China as their Future Vision for America. So there is no political advantage for them to highlight the true oppressiveness of Socialist rule.

"A Hong Kong police officer fired a gunshot during protests on Sunday, the first time a live round has been used since demonstrations broke out in June.

Images show several other officers also pointed guns at protesters who were chasing them with sticks and poles.

In another first, police deployed water cannon against protesters earlier in the day."

We took down the Soviet Union without firing a shot. And if Xi plays his hand wrong, the same thing will happen to his socialist regime.

Taiwan joins people's revolt against Chinese socialist gov't.

"China lashes out at Taiwan over Hong Kong asylum offer

HONG KONG (AP) — China lashed out at Taiwan on Monday over its offer of political asylum to participants in Hong Kong's pro-democracy protest movement, a day after hundreds of thousands of people marched peacefully in the latest massive demonstration in the Chinese territory.

The government of Taiwan, a self-ruled island that China considers its own territory, strongly supports the protests, and Hong Kong students in Taiwan held events over the weekend expressing their backing. Taiwan's president made the asylum offer last month, though it's not clear if requests have been received."

Tianenmen Square redux, I fear.....

Anyone who supposes China to be socialist is not only an extreme-right weirdo but pissed out of his mind on rotgut.

Of course China is socialist, ... no free speech, a forcibly disarmed populace, racial supremacy, no right to own land, no freedom of religion, one party rule, and political prisoners.

:dunno:

It’s a difference in degree and not kind.

I would add a strong central government to BD’s list. Our domestic socialist/progressives like their government strong and centralized. They would like nothing better than a *national* law outlawing guns. They may say they just want to outlaw the scary AR’s but outlawing all weapons is the Gold Standard—at least it is for the radicals; there’s certainly no shortage of those and they’re starting to sneak into Congress.

Show me a socialist and I’ll show you an authoritarian.

Capitalism is ownership of industry by a tiny minority who force everyone else to work for their profit. Socialism is control of the economy by the working class. China, like all other countries in the world market, is intensely capitalist. These hell-holes call themselves all sorts of things - Christian, Communist, Muslim - but what they are for the majority is pure unadulterated shit. It has nothing whatever to do with the power of the capitalist state.

State Owned Enterprises operate according to international markets.
The state operates in the interests of the workers (suposedly) but is really just another Politburo

All capitalist states operate in the world market - what else could they do? Every capitalist (i.e. every) state operates in the interests of a tiny minority who own everything and live off our backs. Everyone knows this, but some pretend otherwise to prevent the mugs waking up.

Industry should be owned by those who risked everything in starting it up.

And no one is ‘forcing’ anyone to work for them lol. I’ll grant that they are by and large greedy bastards but it is what it is. What’s the alternative? Government ownership? Thanks, but no thanks.

Greed is actually a necessity in a healthy economy: greed drives innovation and risk-taking. That’s why China has to steal our technology: their economic system stifles innovation.

Right thinking people want no part of it.

Why? Why not by those who do the work? How many industries are owned by those who started them up?

What choice have they got but to work at the price the capitalists set? The alternative is democratic control by those who do the work, producing what's needed by everyone and getting whatever they need in return.

Greed is only necessary for a peculiarly nasty form of capitalism. It has showed us how to produce all we need for a few hours work a week, but if we don't get shot of it, it is going to burn the lot of us.

Yep ...

"Out of the 40 million people who work for China’s state-owned industrial behemoths, more than 10 million are Chinese Communist Party members. What is more, according to the top regulator of China’s state-owned assets, these enterprises contain more than 800,000 party committees.
At the same time, Xiao Yaqing, director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), wrote in the Central Party School’s Study Times, when a state-owned enterprise has a board of directors, its party boss also tends to be the board chairman."

You garbled up my post.

There’s not a thing wrong with worker-owned industry—so long as said industry is not forced out of the hands of stock holders and the people who took the risks in developing it. The minute that starts to go on is the minute people stop taking risks: why take the risk if the government is just going to step in and hand it over to someone else?
