Hospital Systems Beginning To Collapse

Hospital Systems On The Verge Of Failure As Delta Rages In The South

Coronavirus news is coming fast and furious, as the delta variant fuels another surge in cases across the U.S.

Arkansas set a record for hospitalizations, while officials in one Florida county are urging residents to "consider other options" before calling 911. Health officials in Mississippi say the state's hospital system could collapse in five to 10 days if the current trajectory continues.

Current vaccines protect against severe disease, hospitalization and death — and institutions across the country are strengthening their vaccine requirements and guidance.

More spaces are now requiring vaccinations, or penalizing people who don't get the shot. The Department of Defense is moving to require vaccines for service members, and the federal Health and Human Services department is ordering them for its thousands of healthcare workers. Plus, several small colleges say they will charge unvaccinated students an extra fee.

Residents in one Florida county are being asked to "consider other options" before calling 911

Officials in Brevard County, on Florida's east coast, are urging residents to "consider other options before taxing ambulance services with non-emergency calls and showing up at the ER for a COVID test when other test sites are available," according to its emergency management office.

All three of the county's hospital systems are already over capacity and have had to implement surge plans that involve canceling elective procedures and converting regular rooms into COVID-19 spaces, said Brevard County Emergency Director John Scott.

Statewide, 90% of Florida's intensive care beds are full.

Mississippi's hospital system could collapse in days

Hospital leaders at the University of Mississippi Medical Center say the state's medical system is on the verge of failure due to an influx in COVID-19 patients, staff shortages and dwindling ICU capacity.

Arkansas set a new state record for hospitalizations

The state reported 1,376 new hospitalizations on Monday, surpassing a record it set in January. Health officials said there were just eight intensive care unit beds available in the entire state.

The State Of Arkansas Has Only 8 Empty ICU Beds, As COVID-19 Cases Resurge.

Dr. Cam Patterson, chancellor of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, told NPR's Debbie Elliott yesterday that the average COVID-19 patient was over 60 a year ago, but is now 40. Some 20% of the medical center's patients have been pregnant moms, he added.

Fake news. More random numbers. Random numbers are not data.

Capacity is not occupancy. Nordberg is correct; they would not put a stroke or heart patient in the same ICU as a COVID patient. And elective surgeries do not typically result in an ICU stay. Heart attack and stroke and other emergent conditions have been being treated all along, pandemic or not. My brother was in the ICU April 2020 for heart surgery/bypass/stroke.

A hospital has only one ICU, twit.

Another false statement, people still die after vaccines, some due to complications with vaccines, some catch covid and die anyway

I just retrieved this from Google. You can see my search term in the search box on top of the graphic. Of the 369M (MILLION) doses given in the United States, how many have died from 1) the vaccine itself, and/or 2) COVID afterwards? We'll wait. And wait. And wait.

So, ah. How many of these ICU beds are actually being used because of Covid? Probably not many.

Here in florida 60 percent of icu beds are being used normally
The hospital system is not collasping that 8s democrat bullshit scare tactics

Polibullshitter is off on yet another Covid thread, truly obnoxious old crone.

Our medical system has been deeply broken for decades and nothing was ever done about it regardless of what Obama claims, and now we are really in trouble as the staff vote with their feet and quit. The fact that the leaders of the system are making it racist under demands of the regressive left revolution will further collapse it.

This is an important topic.

so far about 6,000 and number is climbing, there are three threads on this board alone all posted from stories at NBC stations showing people still die after vaccines.

Before the pandemic, nursing shortages were common in most areas of the state, according to the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.

Now the pandemic has stretched resources to a breaking point.

Hospitals, some with more COVID-19 patients now than during the winter surge, say they are confronting unprecedented staffing shortages, particularly among nurses.

“All of our hospitals are saying staffing is a big problem,” said Lois Richardson, attorney for the California Hospital Association. “We have fewer personnel than at the beginning of the pandemic and more patients.”

The staffing shortage is so severe that Scripps Health is considering temporarily consolidating some of its outpatient centers. Scripps, which has five hospitals and 28 outpatient clinics in the San Diego area, told CalMatters that it is serving nearly 20% more patients on average than before the pandemic. At the same time, job openings at the hospitals have increased 57% since August 2019. For nursing jobs alone, vacancies have increased 96%.

It's interesting that you all think that a 2% death rate is meh, yet freak out over an alleged death rate of 0.00001626016%*, assuming your 6,000 figure is 1) accurate, and 2) refers to ppl who died after getting the vaccine.

* I'll show my work.
