The point she was trying to make but could have said better, is that these people are not "criminals" per se, in that the vast majority of them aren't here to commit crimes against society.

AOC was eviscerated in that clip. You aren’t ‘a criminal per se’ if you violate a statute; when you willingly violate a statute, you are a criminal *by definition*.

Every year millions of US citizens are separated from their families for violating statutes. Why should foreigners be treated—better?

Also, the ICE guy brought up a good point that AOC refused to address: we have a system for taking in asylum seekers, they are called ‘ports of entry’.

Instead of encouraging more of them to commit a crime, why aren’t we encouraging more of them to use ports of entry—instead of offering them free healthcare if they can somehow get into the country—illegally?
 
By definition, a person who violates a law is a criminal.
