Maybe they already do? If I was a team, I would want al the players to sign off that they understand the risks involved and freely made their own decision to participate.

It does not appear so. Football remains the most popular sport in the USA.

If injuries cause the end of football, there is really nothing to suggest that might happen any time in the near future.

I had Lion season tickets for many years. I watched Barry Sanders's entire career. Real Sports on HBO showed the physical damage and stressed the concussions and brain damage it causes. It is a cruel and vicious sport that causes severe damage to participants. Since Real Sports, there have been many shows and ensuing investigations.
I have always preferred baseball. But I am no longer a football fan. It may be at least partially the Lion's shit organization that made the final cut so deep.

And now it seems that football is dangerous in a completely different way. We have no way of knowing how many times the COVID virus was transmitted at packed football games. I like football but it just seemed crazy to put thousands of people in such close proximity for so many hours with so much physical exertion and heavy breathing.

I recall during Trump's administration during 2020 there were two events held at the White House lawn. The first of which was breezy, and there was no record of COVID transmission. The second of which was held to celebrate the selection of Justice Barrett, and I noticed there was little to no wind. That one resulted in several people testing positive for COVID-19.

I think it is irresponsible to put so many people in such close proximity for a football game when the tix are sold well in advance and nobody has any idea what the conditions will be on game day, but people feel obligated to go and get their money's worth. And besides. If an individual has gotten tickets, they are going to get psyched up to go no matter what. They will tell themselves whatever they have to in order to justify that.

Greater steps need to be taken to fight the pandemic.
