How would you balance the budget?

what a string of nonsense. SS pays out what it gets in. It taxes workers and companies, building a significant pot of money.As long as people are working, retirees will get paid.
What country do you live in? Do you think Repubs would do any of that military slashing?
You were born in the wrong century. You should have been in a simpler time like the revolutionary days. Nowadays we have to deal with foreign nations. We have a huge country to keep running.

The government is going to get rich by taking from the poor? Even crooks know better than that.
 
Raise revenue. That is by taxing where the money went to, the very rich. Our wealth gap is worse than the gilded age due to the ridiculous and repeating tax cuts to the top 1 percent. You need to tax them. Then cut the military budget in half. We have been spending more than the next 12 nations combined for many years.
You can do other things, but without these, you are wasting time.

No, we don't. We certainly don't have to subsidize their defense.

Or we could start charging those countries we have bases in and let them pay for the cost.
