You are offering what amounts to trivial objections. When the government is 97%+ of the market, they are the market. The few alternates are obscure companies that happen to offer a policy. The government has what amounts to a monopoly on flood insurance.
According to the United Nations’ latest climate report, warming from fossil fuel use and other human activities is likely behind an increase in the number of high intensity hurricanes in the past 40 years.
Hurricane Ida is the latest storm to batter the United States this summer. Tropical Storm Henri weakened as it inundated coastal communities in New England earlier this month, but it still knocked out power to more than 120,000 homes in three states and dumped a record 1.89 inches of rain on New York City in just one hour.
And hurricane season is far from over, as five other tropical systems are now sweeping over the Atlantic Ocean.
But for now, all eyes are on Ida.
Scientists had been bracing for the worst since the moment forecasters identified a tropical depression forming last week. The Gulf of Mexico in August is always a hotbed of hurricane formation. “This time of year, it’s like bathtub water,” said Brian Tang, an atmospheric scientist at the University at Albany in New York.
Lately, conditions in the ocean have been exceptionally bad. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, parts of the Gulf are three to five degrees Fahrenheit higher than the average for the end of the 20th century. Research shows that human greenhouse gas emissions have caused the ocean to warm faster in recent years than at any point since the end of the last ice age.

Power is restored for Jack. I'm back in the 21st century. We always had Water pressure. 'Water' is the key. You can live without Electricity, you can't live with out Water.

If I can drink it and NOT get sick, it's potable.We freeze Milk Gallon Jugs of Water and stick it in the Refrigerator. We fill Laundry Sinks and Bathtubs with Water.
I have never bought Water in a Plastic bottle, and don't think I ever will.

Thanks, Poli. After 5 days with NO NEWS, I'm still trying to catch up to where things are. I watched a little of Fox News ... and according to them, Biden caused Hurricane Ida. Every person on there is bashing Biden for one thing or another. I feel I may have missed something during my absence. In fact, I think I'm going to go watch some more News now. You know, I don't want to be the last to know the World is coming to an End ... thanks to Biden.

It's one thing to be tuning out on a Hawaiian beach and another thing to be tuning out on a fetid swamp fighting mosquitoes and flies for 5 year old Twinkies, stale crackers and whatever else is around to eat.
It's an adventure to do it once when one was young. Now I'm too old for that shit. LOL
Nope. I got into a habit of making my fresh ground Dunkin' Donut brand coffee in the morning, mixing in some sugar and heavy whipping cream, and turning on CNBC for some Becky Quick and Jim Cramer Market commentary, then some general News, and then JPP Politics Forum. When you are OUT OF POWER, it throws your whole routine out of kilter. Like, no electric coffee pot. I had to dig into the Pantry and find my old time Percolator. You know, the one you put on the Stove and have to watch so you don't overcook the coffee.
As you sit there, contemplating the days activities, you begin to wonder if drinking HOT COFFEE before going out into the HOT & HUMID day is a good idea? So, ... at about Day 2, you ditch the coffee for a glass of Water. Now, here's something you probably didn't know, at least I didn't, the Ice Water Dispenser on your Refrigerator DOESN'T dispense cold water when the Power is out.
