It would require a constitutional amendment to get rid of the electoral college, but if democrats can pull it off or inact some measure or proposal to lesson it’s useless impediment to real democracy, republicans would never win the White House.

Ignore republican whining because they believe that winning by getting the most votes is cheating.

Without the EC this election would have been indisputably over long ago. Donald Trump himself is the poster child for abolishing the EC. Lots of proposals on how to get it done.
 
None of the excuses offered in defense of the EC even make sense.

There are conservatives here who have spent message board careers claiming the intent of the EC is to ensure a mandate of a majority of states.

That is not the intent of the EC, and the constitution does not say a single word about a president needing a mandate of a majority of states.

Presidents can and have won the EC and popular vote while only carrying a minority of states.

Mathematically, it is possible to win the EC by only carrying the eleven most populous states.

The real problem with the EC, what really makes it undemocratic, is that the EC votes are distributed by the states on a winner-take-all basis.

EC is set up like Congress in terms of amount of electors. That makes enormous sense to begin with.
also YUGE populous states of CA are limited from overwhelming the popular vote by proportional electors instread

Not the first time someone on the left has made this proclamation. The reason it is never right is because not all Americans are political/ideological partisans. (The fact that millions voted for both Obama and Trump shows that.) Thus people get tired of the party in office and want change which is why it's been 30 years since we've seen a party hold power for three consecutive terms.
 
Both parties questioned the Electoral College since it was installed. There have been bills offered that did not win out but were close. In 1969, the house judiciary comm. passed a billl 28 to 6. The House passed it 339 to 70.
In the 1800s there were many attempts to modify or kill it. Nobody loved it until the Repubs do now.

Hey einstein. You have to win with LEGAL votes. That's what repubs say. Biden got 10 million illegal alien votes as did obama. The hundreds of sanctuary cities have ADMITTED they let illegals vote.!!!

D. No city has admitted this, nor can you show that one has.

Which brings us back to 2020 America and this clusterfuck of an election, which you jackasses have managed to turn into a horrifying preview of "democracy" in action.

Dems have always hated the election process because of the way Jackson lost in 1824 when the Electoral College failed to elect him, and then John Quincy Adams colluded with Henry Clay to steal the election in the House.

Fun fact, Adams once served as Ambassador to Russia and Speaker Clay was from Kentucky.

The purpose of the EC is to nullify the retard vote as much as possible. Which has disproportionately gone to Democrats since 1828.
