If Prez Doing Such A Good Job, Why Does USA Have Most Covid?

No need to get angry. Most Americans knew Trump is 90% bullshit whenever he speaks. It's a given. It's what the experts say that really matters. This includes VP Pence, who has been more Presidential in the past few months than Trump has in his entire 3 years.

For all practical purposes Pence is President!
Trump comes out and talks about himself, brags, ignores the actual numbers.
Picks fights with the media. Then leaves.
And the adults come out and say what's going on,contradicting Trump's narcissistic pipedreams.

Hello dukkha,
If Republicans were not in such denial of the poor performance of DT, then Democrats would not have to go to such lengths to point out the facts of his irresponsible inaction and denials, which are now poised to sacrifice American lives for his BS.

A slight disagreement. Most Republicans are not in denial of Trump's poor performance, they just don't talk about it because the alternative is the Democrat Dementia candidate; Joe Biden. I like Joe, he's a nice guy, but I don't want him to be President. FWIW, I don't want Trump to be President either, but he is. The RWNJs on this forum are an except to a normal, sane Republican. The RWNJs on this forum either young Neo-Nazis/White Supremacists or they are old farts stuffed into a room with their walker and a computer. They're so old even a bucket of Viagra wouldn't help them get a woody so they take their anger about life out on this forum. Regardless, they're idiots and should largely be ignored except for entertainment purposes.

Yes, to be fair, there are LW Loonies too, but they are fewer in number and most are as hateful.

your narrative is a bunch of crap as usual.. all the complaints is about testing -not his performance.

What did Biden say about closing flights from China early like Trump did?

He called it "racist xenophobia" -there's your problem

Why worry? Trump is almost assured of reelection in November. The only thing that would cause him to lose is if he's wrong about Easter and there are over 37,000 Americans dead of COVID-19 by Election Day.

Agreed. The smartest thing Trump's done his entire presidency is to put Pence in charge of the Coronavirus task force.

Hello anonymoose,

That's an outdated graph.

It shows the US with 69K cases.

Try 104K

And that would make it 315 cases per million. And rising fast. Poised to overtake both Iran and France. (We have bad leadership.)

Even those numbers may sound better than 1700 deaths.

But the feel-good about that is to be short-lived.

There is no flattening of the curve.

We are still spiking.

As of 3/26/20... PER CAPITA!

Wow, talk about pot kettle black...

He is the most serious, curious and courteous poster at JPP by a country mile. I certainly don't have the patience
he has with idiots like you that he does.
And you are second biggest idiot on JPP. I guess you think he is courteous because he offers idiots like you professional courtesy.

Hello dukkha,

your narrative is a bunch of crap as usual.. all the complaints is about testing -not his performance.

I am not surprised you disagree with my views.

The CDC, for some unexplained reason, at first refused to use the WHO testing protocols and tried to go it on their own. That failed and valuable time was lost.

"The World Health Organization had published a working version of a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test — commonly known as a PCR test — which uses snippets of genetic material to diagnose a virus. Tests based on the WHO data were already in widespread use in China. In South Korea, the government drug ministry was corralling biotech companies, telling them to begin working on tests based on the same data.

Pinsky also relied on the WHO protocols as he developed a PCR test. By early February, he had a test that he thought would work. And then he, and Stanford, waited, for weeks. That was all they could do until the federal government gave them the go-ahead to begin using it to diagnose the disease in patients.

For all its scientific know-how, the U.S has lagged behind in testing thanks to a combination of government hubris, incompetence and bureaucratic rigidity. Even now, there aren’t nearly enough tests being performed. According to the Covid Tracking Project, fewer than 500,000 tests have been done nationwide in March. It’s not even close to being enough.

If you want to understand why, Pinsky’s effort is as good a place as any to start. A scientist in a lab sees what is happening in China and takes it upon himself to develop a test — just in case. He adapts the WHO protocols to the specifics of his lab and the materials available to him (every lab is different, after all) and his test is ready to go in a matter of weeks.

With much less urgency, the federal government also begins working on a PCR test. But unlike Pinsky — not to mention most of the rest of the world — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention decides not to follow the WHO’s protocols. Nobody knows why. Instead, the CDC develops its own test, which all the nation’s labs will then have to replicate. But when it sends out 200 test kits to 100 labs in February, many of them don’t work. The CDC then promises to quickly come up with new tests, but one day stretches into three and then 10. Finally, in late February, the agency essentially throws up its hands and loosens its restrictions on clinical labs to develop their own tests. Alas, by then it is way too late. "

"“For the entire month of February, the only place you could get a test was from the CDC,” he told me. “The U.S. and South Korea both had their first diagnosis on the same day. For the entire month of February, the U.S. conducted 472 tests. South Korea conducted 70,000. They were doing thousands every day, while the U.S. was doing zero.” The clear reason is that the South Korean government was proactive from day 1, while the Trump administration sat on its hands.""

Why the U.S. Still Can’t Do Enough Coronavirus Testing - The country continues to suffer from a combination of government hubris, incompetence and bureaucratic rigidity.

The director of the CDC is appointed by the president, answers to the president, and may be fired at any time by the president.

The director of the CDC serves at the pleasure of the president.

The president is ultimately responsible for what the CDC does.

The CDC dropped the ball. It is a failure of the president.

I wish we had better choices but at some point America will have to decide. Once again it is shaping up to be another pinch-your-nose election. I never thought I would support Biden for prez, but that is exactly the position I find myself in, because the alternative is worse. (Bernie's campaign is essentially over.)

Why specifically 37,000?

I like Pence. Trump is Trump, sometimes good sometimes bad. But you TDS folks will disagree.

Agreed on Pence and that "Trump is Trump". Mostly bad, sometimes good.

I'm not a Trump Dick Sucker nor one of Trump's Deranged Sycophants. You TDS folks will disagree. :)

The United States was ranked the best-prepared country in the world to handle a pandemic in late 2019 by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (JHCHS) -- an assessment seemingly at odds with claims by Democrats that the Trump administration left the country vulnerable to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

Why specifically 37,000?
That's the number the Trumpeteers keep quoting as the annual number of Flu deaths. Trump said COVID-19 is not as bad as the flu. Once there are more COVID deaths than flu deaths, he's proved both wrong and a liar....again.

I don't think there is much doubt the death toll will far exceed that number. It appears the total will be 100's of thousands, hopefully not over a million but that is entirely possible. Or it could end up being several million.

1% of the entire 327M population is 3.27M. If a third, 100M, are infected then that's a 1M dead Americans by Election Day. That's given Trump gets his way about Easter and there is no cure or vaccine over the summer.

February 2: “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 25: “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 26: “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
February 26: “We're going very substantially down, not up.”
February 27: “One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

Feb 28: CDC says no question of if, only when. It's coming.

February 28: “Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus, you know that, right? Coronavirus, they’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa.” “They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything. They tried it over and over. They’d been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning. They lost. It’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax.”

March 27: USA becomes world leader in number of Covid-19 cases.

Strange is it not....regardless of all the left wing "NOISE".....Trump's numbers just keep climbing...…... That must be frustrating....wasting all that propaganda on another failed event to take out Trump. I'd wager that you are in favor of the latest left wing wish...…..VOTING VIA MAIL (unsecured....way to steal another election). Trump and Trump's supporters know the playbook...….Trump is keeping his base well informed in spite of the media attempting to block his communications with his base. Before the crisis the press was bitching about Trump not having enough press conferences.....now they refuse to even cover a daily briefing on the crisis. Look for Trump to begin using the Emergency Broadcasting System to talk directly to the people.
