In a road trip! Gas, $4.44 a gallon!

State and local tax add ons, and the funny part of those are that if the local governments eliminate or reduce the tax the retailers often won’t reduce the cost proportionally. Prices never go back to where they came
Sure they do. I can still fill up my car for an ounce of silver. About middle range right now. Pretty much what it cost most years.

You want to use the devalued dollar? You can blame FDR, Carter, Clinton, Obama, and Biden for most of that!

I paid over $7/gallon this week. Now I do use premium. I think regular was around $6.70. That's about $2.25 more than what Jarod is complaining about. That's a lot of local and state taxes.
That it is. It also caused by a regional shortage, again, due to oppressive taxes and regulations.

It's been at or above $4 a gallon here because we, unfortunately, get our gasoline from California. But that's changing. Philips and Kinder Morgan are building a new 20" pipeline to Phoenix meaning we won't have to use California refineries any more. That will drop the price of gas, all on its own by $.10 to $.25 a gallon.

Of course, since gasoline consumption is going up, and production in the US is relatively flat, of course the price keeps rising. Maybe we should build a few new refineries...
Refinery building stopped in the 1970's because of oppressive environmental laws making permitting them impractical. No major refinery has been built since.

Whoa, lot of hate going on there, and how can one hate Boston, one of America’s iconic cities,
Easy. Boston is terrible to get around in, filthy, expensive, and cramped. Even a trip to the automat seems like night out on the town.
and you don’t need a car in Boston
Part of the problem. No place to put one.
And running errands shouldn’t burn thru gas,
It does, anchovies. Deal with it.
and I play golf closer to home
Pack the your golf bag on your bike, do you? I'd love to see you try to pack my tractor on that thing!

Jesus Nordberg, rereadng your response I'm shaking my head even more.

Jarod never stated where he was. He asked if gas has ever been as high as $4.44. Well yes, I paid over $7 this week. That answers his question.

Do you think gas costs the same everywhere you are? Hell, there are three gas stations on Lombard St near me that all charge different rates.

To answer Jarod's question we would need to know where he is and we can then look up that station's pricing history.

So if you're going to talk sh*t, come a lot stronger my man.
There's a gas station in California that is currently charging $9.99/gal.
So you are quite right. Jarod the Pretender is clueless.

San Francisco has to be a leader in car share platforms.

Growing up rural i had a car the day I turned 16 and bought a convertible summer car in my 20's with first business success.

But after living in downtown areas of big cities only for over a decade and finding i almost never drove anywhere i sold both and did car shares.

Was tough to do but do freeing once I did. Have not owned a car in 20 years now and car expense all in is less than $500 per year.
So you're stuck in the city.

Jarod's probably in FL, and the gas is a little cheaper here, but it might be higher elsewhere.
I think it's like $4.21 here today.

Yeah, if you are use to the mediocrity of rural or gated community a ride on subway would scare the shit out of you, and automates haven’t in existed in decades

Hilarious! You consider rural living 'mediocrity'! You're stuck in the city, anchovies! How would you know??
I have no problem riding on a subway IF it's reasonably secure and clean.
Automats still exist in Boston.

Illiteracy: Incorrect tense. missing commas. Missing period. Misspelled words.

Kind of funny that everyone talks about the oil companies gouging people yet the federal, state and local gobblements make more in profit on a gallon of gasoline than Exxon does. And they don't do shit to produce it

I do agree that gasoline prices never come down as fast as they go up
That is how taxes work, but you are incorrect about the Governments do provide roads, inspections, shipping channels, a Coast Guard, international negotiations and regulations, ingress and egress to gas stations, and a lot more.
