Iran......isolated, cut off, all alone

Trump mulls expelling Spain from NATO for failing to back his war on Iran

The US has threatened to "punish" its NATO allies for their 'lack of support in the war on Iran', including ejecting Spain from the alliance.

Spain has been the most prominent and forthright critic of the war on Iran, declaring it illegal from the outset and forbidding the US from using its bases or airspace for the conflict.

Spain hit back at the reports, with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stating that his country was following all its obligations under the alliance.

"Spain is a reliable member within NATO" that is fulfilling all its obligations, Sanchez told reporters in Cyprus, where he was attending an EU summit.

"As a result, I am absolutely not worried," he said.

The Pentagon described these two factors as "just the absolute baseline for NATO".

An internal Pentagon email seen by Reuters outlined a range of possible options for the US to inflict consequences on its allies.

Among the other measures considered were recognizing Argentina's claims over the Falkland Islands, which the South American country calls Las Malvinas, to punish the UK, and blocking "difficult" countries from important or prestigious positions within the alliance.

Donald Trump, who has long criticized what he sees as a power imbalance between the US and other members of NATO, has made no secret of his frustration at Europe's opposition to the US-Israeli war on Iran.

In early April, he repeated his threat to pull the US out of the alliance.

March 3: The rout is on!.....(Iran) will get new leadership and have Freedom. They most likely will erect huge statues to POTUS Trump for bringing them the first real freedom they have had in over 46 years!
March 3: We will see Iranian troops tearing off they're uniforms and joining the peace loving citizens. The world will celebrate! This is FANTASTIC!

This is the most classic case of spiking the football prematurely in JPP history.

Trump is becoming increasingly eratic and exasperated because Iran won't bend to his will, and further combat operations are unlikely to fundamentally change the equation.

‘I Was So Wrong’: Iranians Say Trump’s Promises Never Came True

As President Trump struggles to extricate the United States from the war in Iran, his promises to protesters in the country have fallen by the wayside.

In the weeks leading up to the U.S. war with Iran, President Trump cheered on the Iranian protesters rising up against their government, telling them that they should “save the names of the killers and abusers” and that he would come to their aid.

“HELP IS ON ITS WAY,” he promised.

As Iranians remain locked in crisis, Mr. Trump is looking for a way out.

But for Iranians who listened to Mr. Trump’s early promises, the sense of betrayal is real.

“I genuinely thought that help was on the way, but I was so wrong,” said Vahid, a 35-year-old from Tehran who works at a start-up company, echoing a sentiment expressed by numerous Iranians in interviews with The New York Times. All spoke on the condition that The Times identify them only by their first names, out of fear of reprisals from their government.

Maryam, a 36-year-old from Tehran who participated in the January anti-government protests, said Mr. Trump took advantage of a citizen uprising to further his own agenda.

“I feel that Trump and the U.S. are deceitful, and Trump is a showman,” Maryam said. “They used the language of human rights toward only their own benefit.”

Sajad, a 27-year-old from Tehran who works in cinema, was more blunt, saying he had no trust in either Iran or the United States.

“I don’t think any of them care about the interests of the people of Iran,” he said. “In one word, I despise Trump, the U.S. and all the rest of them.”
