Fleeing is a term used in this context that shows serious bias, people might be leaving, but the only one fleeing is someone who committed a crime.

Lets look at an objective measure... Supply and demand, why are homes so expensive in California? They have plenty of land... More land than Alabama...

I'm not telling the most educated person on the board something he doesn't already know but for those not educated at your level it doesn't matter how much land is in California when the state makes it off limits to development. The whole idea of a balance between supply and demand is supply is allowed to increase to meet the demand. Not how it works in California.

So the state putting artificial barriers up to keep supply low plays a major role in the cost of housing here. Other states that have demand allow new development which helps keep pricing from reaching California levels.

If you profess to care about the working or middle class then explain to me how the California housing model benefits them today. (I'm not talking about the middle class folks who bought in the '70's and are sitting on a nest egg. I'm talking about people today.)

Ok you spent 4 years on daddies dime. What didn't you like about Alabama?

I'm not Jarod, I was just telling you what he meant by his comment.

The whole thread is a troll. That because Alabama is red (politically) it is therefore some conservative utopia (just as California or Illinois would be a liberal utopia). It's stupid.

My dad did not pay for it... It is incredibly backward, impossible to get anything done without a bribe, and the people are poorly educated.
The football is fun.

I have been to many blue states and can say the same thing based on my experiences in some areas. You cannot judge a region based on one small rural town.

Some of the smartest people I know were poorly educated by your standards, book smarts doesn't make one better than another.

What is your degree in?

Double major political science and Spanish.

I did not say the people aren’t smart. I said they are uneducated. My father grew up in Montgomery, and my grandparents lived there, subsequently, I spent a a lot of time in Montgomery, and I had a lot of friends in Birmingham, where I spent a considerable amount of time. I also vacationed in Mobile a few times.

Birmingham is different than the rest of the state, but Montgomery is one of the most backward places I have ever been. This is a place that elects governors who actively seek to ban dancing. A college town where it’s illegal to sell a beer after midnight Saturday night.

Where sorority houses are banned because they could easily turn into whore houses. The fraternities and sororities are still segregated. When I was in school they tried to open a disco club, but it was banned because that type of music encourages gayness.

How long ago was that?
Most of the south no longer have blue laws. I was stationed in S. Carolina in the 70s. The only thing you could buy on Sundays was food and essentials. Everything closed on Wednesday nights as it was church night.
I didn't demean the people because I didn't like their laws.

The more I read your posts I see an intellectual snob.

If you're interested I have a technical batchlors degree.

You hit on a point that drives a lot of voters. Regarding the Republican Party, to a lot of minorities they see the Republican Party as not caring about them or outright disliking them. Whether that's true or not that's the perception and people vote accordingly. With Democrats, it's the highlighted what you said above. The perception that unless you went to a top/elite school and live on the coast they look down on you like Jarod is doing here. That drives certain voters against them.

Interesting about this Saturday night thing. Here in Blue State Colorado it is always illegal to sell a beer in any retail establishment after midnight, every single night, not just Saturdays. (Bars are different, those are open until 2 AM). It was also illegal to sell any retail beer on Sundays until just recently here in Blue State Colorado (bars were always open though).
