He is being impeached, Darth, because he abused his office...and he attempted to interfere with the legitimate House investigation.

As explained by Trump’s brilliant lawyers, the FULL House must vote to start an impeachment investigation. The Supreme Court has ruled that the House means the full House, not a committee.

The House does not even need an investigation, or they can use another investigation... So somehow I doubt trump's "brilliant lawyers" are correct, but go ahead and show us where the Constitution says anything about "impeachment investigations". No, there is still a chance Trump could be convicted. It ain't over till it's over. I agree the odds are slim. But no matter how certain it looks, there is no predicting the outcome of a trial. It could still go either way. The Senators are not dummies. Sure, they are afraid of being tweet-shamed. That is strong. But they also know that, with or without witnesses, this story continues to evolve and the truth will come out sooner or later. If they are caught on the wrong side of the decision that will go badly for them in the next election. They know they need to consider the current events and threats as well as what lies down the road.

It is all worse than that. This is going to suppress reluctant trump voters. They will be so disgusted they will stay home. It will also create more anti-trump voters, even FoxNews admits independents support conviction by a 19 point margin.

It will also encourage hard core trump voters (the Alt Right) to vote. But they were super encouraged in 2016, so that won't improve trump and the Republicans chances much.
