Claims range from versions that overlap with mainstream science to explicitly mythological ones.


Most common version (academic and popular Afrocentrism):

All modern humans, including Europeans, originated in Africa. Light-skinned populations are descendants of African migrants who moved north, lost melanin as an adaptation to lower UV, and later built civilizations that (in this telling) borrowed or stole from earlier African ones, especially Egypt. Whites are sometimes labeled “Ice People” who developed cold, individualistic, aggressive traits in northern climates, versus African “Sun People.” This framing is associated with figures such as Leonard Jeffries and draws on Cheikh Anta Diop and later writers.


Nation of Islam / related Black nationalist mythology:

A black "scientist" named Yakub (sometimes identified with the biblical Jacob) created white people 6,600 years ago on the island of Patmos through a centuries-long selective-breeding program that “grafted” a weaker, lighter “germ” out of the original black population. The resulting race is described as inherently devilish and destined to rule for 6,000 years. This is core NOI doctrine from Wallace Fard Muhammad and Elijah Muhammad.


Rhetorical flourish often attached to both:

While "black Africa had high civilization (Egypt, etc.), white people were still living in caves as savages". This is a stock contrast rather than a detailed migration account.


In short: the least extreme claim is simply “they came from Africa like everyone else and then adapted in the north.”

The most distinctive extra-scientific claim is the Yakub story.
