Jesus Was Not a Refugee

Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”

Mary, and Joseph were refugees with Jesus? That can't be right. That would mean Hville would need to eat his words.

Unless one is *personally* taking in refugees they can only cast stones at the risk of being labeled a hypocrite.

Problem is that Jesus probably never went to Egypt.. Herod didn't kill all the babies and there was no Roman census. I think Matthew was trying to make Jesus fit the prophesy which he abbreviated from Hosea 11:1.

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Legitimacy of Christ, or biblical history is pointless here. Jesus as a refugee, is biblical, so it's supposed followers can't excuse their way out of something, like they hoped.

Only in the gospel of Matthew ... but if Jesus parents did go into Egypt which according to scripture was forbidden to the Jews.. he was a refugee.

It’s why he said it was harder for a rich man to get into heaven then it was for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle.

This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. (Luke 12:16–21)

In truth none of those concepts are relevant, but his want for us to help out our fellow man is. Making sure a person gets healthcare, and food, should be a no brainer to a follower of Christ.

Well said. It's amusing how some of our self-appointed "Christians" worship wealth and the wealthy, and totally disregard these teachings, isn't it?
