Just saw the1970's movie, The Conformist

If a private enterprise, business, university, whatever takes federal funds for something, it is subject to some degree of federal control. University administrations rarely, if ever, condone or back student protests. If the feds in giving a university funds, says "You have to put down student protests" then that's how it is. The students can protest off campus. Nothing illegal about that.
Again, "nothing illegal" does not mean it is not completely innappropriate for Big Federal Govt to step in to States and assume that role over Universities.

Universities historically have allowed for the widest boundary pushing when it comes to protest, free speech and other such rights.

Just because Trump and Co can say 'we will hold up you funds if you do not get their speech and protest to conform to what we think is appropriate' does not make anything resembling right of correct to do.

I'd be making the same argument. This isn't about Trump. It's about what is legal contractually and constitutionally.
You are liar.

If Obama was pushing that Southern Universities need to start pushing programs and speech more in line with what you hear coming out of the far left you would not say 'well i do not agree with what he is telling them to say but i agree he has every right to do it so i will not criticize.'

You are telling yourself that lie as you cannot cope with the truth that you are partisan hack and hypocrite.

Historically, maybe. Today? No. Universities are near monolithic in having a single, narrow, political set of views that almost violently resist any others outside of them.

It's a hot mess! University (private or state) vs. State vs. Federal vs. Constitution. A Headache that IMHO has to walk the tight-rope of equal justice to avoid hypocrisy.
The fact is that big govt needs to stay out of trying to dictate thought, speech or associations.

If the Feds can do it then so can the State separately. If they have opposite views what then?

Terry is arguing 'they have leverage thus it is ok to do' and leverage is not what makes it ok or not. Leverage just means you have power to impose and not that it is right to do so.

Ultimately the topics of thought, speech and association are ones that no big govt can or should try to dictate to individuals in America. That goes against everything the country has stood for but because it is Trump Terry will do back flips trying to justify it because of his TDS.

One that universities created themselves by allowing a narrow set of political values to dominate their campuses entirely.
Is that not allowed? There are southern religious universities dominated by narrow sets of political and religious views? Should they lose their tax status and govt dollars?

And?

Who makes a student go to one that they disagree with?

Almost all the ones you are talking about with near monolithic views are more expensive ones(like Religious ones) no has to go to and the average State ones typically do not have those issues.

If those don't align with an open political and speech doctrine, yes, they should. Doesn't matter Right or Left. But by far most universities lean hard to the Left.

Historically, maybe. ,,,
It would be my natural inclination, given the power to dictate as POTUS, to ban all religious schools of all types and deny all of them funds. Public schools only as i think religious indoctrination of all kinds does more harm than good overall.

I would not do it as i recognize my personal views should not over ride everyone else's just because i hold them and have leverage and power.

If i had that power would you support my right to do so and say i was right to do it?

Most religious universities lean hard to the right.

So you support a future Dem POTUS using the leverage of funding to demand they set their curriculum and worship gatherings to what that POTUS thinks appropriate?

You like saying that. But you never give any evidence. And posting something from a right wing website does nor count,
if he is just talking about most elite Universities that is correct. It is like saying the 'elite' States, or most successful also all tend to be left or Dem.

The issue is no one has to go to a Harvard or live in California or NY if they do not like that they lean left. The University choice is even easier than the one you live in. Just do not apply. There are MORE numerous State universities that are also great and do not have such leanings so there is no shortage.

But magats hate seeing 'left leanings' things rise to the top of success. They never ask why that seems to happen and instead of trying to improve their own Institutions and States they instead want to tear down the top most successful 'left' leaning ones.

How is it correct?
AI Overview

Yes, data consistently shows a distinct left-leaning or liberal political skew among top university faculty and administrative staff, though the extent of this imbalance varies by discipline and region. [1, 2, 3]

So, math departments are hotbeds of leftists? Whatever a leftist is....

There are three links there you can dive in to understand. And this is really amongst the elite top universities, so again it begs the questions 'why is top success, and 'elite', where leftists tend to have disproportionate power, whether it be a University or State?

Harvard is mainstream America. Why do you think people go there.
