These fuckers were warned almost 30 years ago that carriers are almost certainly obsolete, so what to they do, ignore it and sink a shit ton more money into carriers.

Which are obsolete....both the big and the small.

One less carrier since one of the smalls got destroyed in a fire during a refit a few years back....another stellar Navy performance!

Until other nations decide to do the same thing with narrow straights they control. I could see, for example Indonesia and Malaysia slapping big charges on Iran and China to use the Strait of Malacca. Kind of kills that dark oil shipment stuff doesn't it? Or maybe the UK and Spain saying Iran can no longer use the Strait of Gibraltar...

Iran holds no juice here. The oil can go by pipeline elsewhere in the long run. Closing Hormuz only works if you can keep things static economically within the region.
