It must be clear to almost everyone by now that the sudden and sharp economic downturn that began in late March is something more than a severe recession. That label was, perhaps, justifiable for the 2007-2009 Great Recession, when unemployment reached a peak of 10 percent. It isn’t now.

The collateral damage has been huge. Small businesses accounted for 47 percent of private-sector jobs in 2016, estimates the Small Business Administration. Many have failed or will fail because they lacked the cash to survive a lengthy shut down. In a new study, economist Robert Fairlie of the University of California at Santa Cruz reports an 8 percent drop in the number of small businesses from February to June. Among African Americans, the decline was 19 percent; among Hispanics, 10 percent.

There's no reason to doubt their data, and while the economic outlook isn't great, there are lot of social and governmental differences between the 1930s and the 2020s. One being more safeguards on banks and stock markets. Not enough, IMO, but they are there. Another is the global tech both virtual and physical.

IMO, "the Great Recession" would have been another "Great Depression" without the improvements our world has put into place. Therefore, the worst outlook is another couple suck years before things start improving again.

On a side note, the reason English women have a reputation for bad teeth is because the Americans took all the best looking ones back home after the war and continuously for 75 years. It's like panning for gold; the prospecting Americans took the nuggets and left the sand behind. I guess they took all the good economists too.
