He was for a time afraid that he would be held to account, but just as no one was held to account for the Debacle in Iraq or the Great Recession no one has been held to account for the massive COVID abuses....and almost certainly no one will be.
If we were to do that we should start with Fauci, both for the creation of SARS-COV2 and the tyranny using the claims of pandemic as an excuse.
Didn't he get a blanket autopen pardon, though?
Why, yes. He did.
On January 19–20, 2025 (his final full day in office), President Biden issued a preemptive “full and unconditional” pardon to Dr. Anthony S. Fauci.
The official text grants:
A Full and Unconditional PardonFor any offenses against the United States which he may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014, through the date of this pardon arising from or in any manner related to his service as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force or the White House COVID-19 Response Team, or as Chief Medical Advisor to the President.
This is a broad, categorical (often described as “blanket”) preemptive pardon covering more than a decade of potential federal offenses tied to those roles. Fauci had not been charged with any crime. Biden framed it as protection against anticipated political investigations or prosecutions by the incoming Trump administration; Fauci accepted it while stating he had committed no crime.
Autopen aspect
Multiple reports and analyses (including from the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project and subsequent coverage) indicate that the formal warrant for Fauci’s pardon—and several other last-day preemptive pardons (e.g., Gen. Mark Milley, Jan. 6 Select Committee members/staff, and certain Biden family members)—was executed with an
autopen (a mechanical device that reproduces a signature) rather than a wet-ink handwritten signature by Biden. White House chief of staff Jeff Zients reportedly approved use of the autopen for these.
President Trump later declared various Biden pardons “void” specifically because of autopen use and claimed Biden may not have personally known about or approved every detail. Legal experts and prior practice (autopens have been used by multiple presidents of both parties for various documents) indicate that autopen signatures are generally considered valid when authorized. No court has vacated Fauci’s pardon. A January 2026 claim that a nonexistent “14th Circuit Court of Appeals” had done so was satire.
Critics (including Sen. Rand Paul) have argued the pardon is unconstitutionally vague, overly broad, and potentially challengeable due to the autopen process and lack of specified offenses, but as of the latest reporting it remains in effect.
