This was a dream-scenario to a lot of people... the time when:
- leftists had a near-monopoly on TV News, and a 99% monopoly on social media
- leftist lawfare was running rampant, and was widely and wildly cheered on by 50% of the country
- leftist militias like BLM and Antifa were allowed to run rampant, assaulting people, assaulting police, looting, burning down buildings, etc, and the MSM and social media called it "mostly peaceful kristallnacht"
- President Biden openly floated the idea of expanding the SC to 13 judges, and the "media" didn't identify a problem with that
- government overreach was at the extent of "the fkn peons will inject what we tell them to inject, they will wear what we tell them to wear, they need our permission to gather, they need our permission to travel, they are not free to worship, they are not free to have weddings or funerals, they are not free to have guests over, they can't even buy seeds (Michigan)."

- algorithms and sycophant bot accounts on social media amplifying and ostensibly verifying the uniparty's messages while simultaneously dampening and repudiating opposition commentary (at one point it got so bad that the NYPost was banned from social media for saying things that were known to be 100% true at that point by the FBI and members of congress)
And at this point I'd just like to posit that "compelled speech, bans, shadow bans, sycophant bot accounts, politically biased algorithms, etc" are several levels up from mere book-burning. Books aren't as central to the zeitgeist as the wide-ranging realm of influence from social media.
Leftists will turn blue in the face denying this, but the US was not all that far from 1935 Germany in 2022. The main barrier to a new "Heil Biden" salute becoming mandatory was "all the guns and ammo in the hands of the deplorables".
If the 2022 democrats had robocops, then the deplorables' guns wouldn't have mattered much, and there would probably be no 2023 Republicans.
