If you are a party that routinely cannot convince the majority/plurality of American voters that your ideas are superior, then there is no way you should nevertheless be rewarded with a stranglehold on the federal government.

I wouldn't feel good about the Democratic Party routinely losing the national vote, but still being given control of the federal government.

There are grown adults, GenXers, today who only have a memory of Republicans winning the national vote one single time in their lives.
 
if it wasnt just ONE party always benefiting from winning without getting more votes maybe people wouldn't want to get rid of the electoral college

The ELECTORAL COLLEGE is not under STATE JURISDICTION. Maine can do no such thing.

Simple the aborted fetus could be the next Einstein, or Dr. Salk, Dr. Jarvik. Or the person who finds a cure for cancer. No telling what potential greatness has already been lost to abortion.

you can't get rid of the electoral college in your state,

you can forfeit your votes toward the election I suppose by not certifying them, but I think the electoral votes would go to the popular candidate anyway.

An electoral fun fact:

Democrats went a span of 40 years and received a majority of Presidential votes one time. From 1968 until Obama in 2008 Jimmy Carter was the only Democrat to win with a majority of the popular vote, and that was 50.1%.

All they can which a few other states have done is to have its electors vote up the nationwide popular vote winner. This, of course disenfranchises Maine's voters. Think about what happens when Trump wins the popular vote in 2020. He gets those electoral votes even if Mainers vote otherwise.
Short sighted and stupid.
