Mass shooting in DEMOCRAT-run city; suspect arrested but still not identified

At least eight people were shot near the Olney Transportation Center on Wednesday afternoon, according to Philadelphia police.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. in the city's Fern Rock section.

Views from Chopper 6 showed a large police presence near the station on the corner of Broad Street and Olney Avenue.

Witnesses said it was violent and chaotic as the gunfire erupted out of nowhere.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the victims range in ages from 17 to 70.

One person was taken into custody and two guns were found at the scene. There is no immediate word on if both weapons belong to that individual or if there were multiple shooters.

"At this point we don't know the extent of that person's involvement," said Outlaw.

Police are working to determine what sparked the shooting.

What a stupid thread. People shoot each other for personal reasons, anger, drugs, or crazies with guns. I doubt that who was mayor factored into the decision.

Police had initially said the shooting left seven people wounded, but they later reported that an eighth victim walked into Einstein Medical Center with a wound.

Chief Inspector Frank Vanore, who oversees the detective bureau, said it was not clear Wednesday night who fired or why — or even if they had a target. But he said two people were taken into custody: one man who was chased down by SEPTA officers who heard the gunshots, and another who was apprehended in a Chevrolet that police believe was used to drive the suspects to the scene.

Both men were found with guns, Vanore said, and detectives were seeking to interview suspects and witnesses and review surveillance video to determine what happened and why.
