Trump blew the tests bigly. We still do not have them across the country is sufficient numbers to provide a complete picture. Collecting data tells you how big the problem is and provides a baseline to measure against. It shows if Corona is growing and where. That allows you to focus resources where they would do the most good.
Trump sat on his fat ass after dumping the HHS staff that had fighting pandemics as a job. He did nothing for testing kits. we are still dangerously low on them..

My university just canceled classes for the rest of the week. Starting Monday we are going to an on-line only environment.

The majority of healthcare workers in my system think this is being overblown.

As mentioned, the hospital infectious control people wanted to enforce a quarantine on the folks who had contact with this individual but they got shot down by the surgical staff. The surgeon involved simply refused to comply and it went downhill from there.

None of this degree of panic and draconian measures went on—under Obama—during the H1-N1 outbreak.

Why?

In January the Chinese health commissioner announced that they would put politics first and quarantine second. If you recall,
China even refused to allow the WHO entrance and to get involved back then.
