Nationwide Measles Surge

The left is doing it again: refusing to take any responsibility for problems their own policies helped create.

We now have two measles-associated deaths in Pennsylvania, and before we even know what role measles actually played in either death, politicians are already frantically trying to turn them into a political weapon.

One of the biggest reasons childhood vaccination schedules work is that schools require the shots for enrollment. That system keeps parents on schedule. Then we shut schools down for extended periods during COVID, disrupted routine pediatric care, disrupted school-enrollment enforcement, and created a huge cohort of kids who fell behind on routine vaccinations.

A completely predictable consequence of those idiotic school closings was going to be more outbreaks of diseases we had previously kept under control.

At the same time, we created massive vaccine hesitancy during the COVID vaccine era. And the reason is not difficult to understand: public-health officials and politicians made claims about the COVID shots that turned out not to be true, especially about transmission and what vaccination would accomplish.

Then they treated skepticism about a new vaccine developed for a novel virus as though it were equivalent to rejecting the decades of evidence behind vaccines like polio and measles.

That damaged public trust. And now the same people who helped destroy that trust want to pretend they had absolutely nothing to do with the consequences.

So now we have these two deaths.

And at this point, we know very little.

They occurred in Lancaster County, home to the largest Amish population in America and a region already known to contain communities with substantially lower vaccination rates. That does not prove either person was Amish. It does mean this outbreak did not occur in some randomly selected, fully vaccinated American population. It occurred in a region we already knew was unusually vulnerable to measles outbreaks.

One of the deaths was a newborn. The immediate cause was a lacerated/ruptured spleen. Whether measles caused or contributed to that injury is exactly the question that has not been established publicly. There are multiple possible causes of splenic injury in a newborn, and so far I have found politicians eager to blame measles before I have found the doctors who actually examined the child saying measles caused the death.

Maybe further investigation will show that it did. Fine. Then say that when the evidence exists.

But right now we have politicians taking “measles-associated deaths” and selling them to the public as “people died from measles” before the underlying medical facts have even been established.

And somehow the people who shut down the schools, disrupted childhood vaccination schedules, destroyed public confidence in vaccination through their handling of COVID, and then blurred the distinction between a new COVID shot and long-established vaccines like MMR are once again insisting that everyone else is responsible for the mess they helped create
I am 1000% convinced Trump is wanting another major pandemic to hit the US again. That way he can control ALL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE LIKE HE DID WITH COVID. He made the blue states bow down to him and the red states praise him...TRUMP IS SETTING US ALL UP FOR ANOTHER DEADLY PANDEMIC AND SADLY THE FUCKIN DUMB ASS PARENTS ARE ALLOWING THIS SHIT

ANY ROOM

When politicians are handed an opportunity to stand together and deliver the same public-health message
Tens of thousands of children will die because trump and Kennedy have lied about MMR vaccines. That is just a fact. If they come clean about their lies, they can save some of them, but still many, many children will die because of this.

We need politicians who stand up and say that MMR vaccines are absolutely safe, and must be mandatory. We need trump and Kennedy to stand with the Democrats and Republicans who stand together and give that unified message.

Since becoming HHS Secretary on February 13, 2025, Kennedy has repeatedly told people to get the measles/MMR vaccine.
That would be untrue. Kennedy has come out against the MMR vaccine. He says he supports individual vaccines instead of the MMR vaccine, but he has been giving false information on the measles vaccine, including claims that it kills children.

What is happening is that Kennedy and trump are trying to support both sides. They want to support vaccines to people who support vaccines, and oppose vaccines to people who oppose vaccines. They call it being a "vaccine skeptic."

What we desperately need is leaders willing to lead and say vaccines are completely safe, and that all children absolutely must get them.

Instead we have a white house suing states to force them to allow open ended exemptions, and giving misinformation about vaccines.

If your actual objective is to rebuild trust and increase MMR vaccination, stop creating the illusion that there are two political camps on whether people should get the measles vaccine.
trump has made an executive order against the MMR vaccine, so it is hard to rebuild trust when he does that.

Some other quotes from trump, "Proof of it, where they have a vaccination that looks like the size of a bottle of soda poured into a little child's body. And bad things happen in many cases, in too many cases, because this is an explosion. This is an epidemic." trump also said, "If you give them separately — the M, the M, and the R, it's fine. When you put them together, they're sort of like a nuclear weapon, according to some. So why wouldn't you give them separately? What's hurt by giving them separately?"

The Amish and other groups have had religious exemptions for decades
Again, that would be untrue. The Amish have absolutely no religious problem with vaccines, but it does take work to convince them to get the vaccinations. The Federal Government is no longer putting in that work.

And I am 100% convinced trump is the dumbest fuck in any room. Let's look at some of his dumb as fuck quotes about vaccines:

"Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines…AUTISM."
"Proof of it, where they have a vaccination that looks like the size of a bottle of soda poured into a little child's body. And bad things happen in many cases, in too many cases, because this is an explosion. This is an epidemic."

Walt's post is a mix of overstatement, selective quoting, and very few accurate details on recent statements.

Here is a claim-by-claim check of the key points in post #151 (the reply to zymurgy).

“Tens of thousands of children will die because Trump and Kennedy have lied about MMR”

This is not a fact. It is rhetoric.

  • Pre-vaccine era (1950s–early 1960s), the U.S. saw an estimated 400–500 measles deaths per year and tens of thousands of hospitalizations. After widespread MMR use, deaths became rare.
  • 2025: 3 measles-associated deaths (first in a decade).
  • 2026 so far: Pennsylvania reported 2 “measles-associated” deaths in unvaccinated people in Lancaster County (Amish-heavy area). One was a newborn whose immediate cause of death was a lacerated/ruptured spleen. The county coroner said the pathologist did not consider measles the cause; the state health department listed it as associated. CDC has not added them to the official national death count while reviewing.

U.S. cases are high by recent standards (~2,777 reported in 2026 through late August, already exceeding all of 2025), overwhelmingly among the unvaccinated or unknown-status. That is a real resurgence and a public-health problem. It is not tens of thousands of deaths. Even a large worsening would not reach that scale in the U.S. in the near term.

School-entry vaccine requirements, including MMR, are set by the states. The federal government does not impose a nationwide school mandate.

Current exemption rules (as of mid-2026)

  • Every state allows medical exemptions.
  • 45 states + DC allow religious and/or personal-belief (philosophical) exemptions.
  • 5 states do not allow religious or personal-belief exemptions for school: California, Connecticut, Maine, New York, and West Virginia (WV has had recent executive-order and court confusion; its education department has not been honoring broad non-medical exemptions for 2026–27).
Typical split among the 45: roughly 30 states religious-only, about 15 religious + personal/philosophical.

Exemption paperwork, notarization, annual renewal, and whether the school or health department reviews the claim all vary by state.

Kennedy “has come out against the MMR vaccine” and “has been giving false information… including claims that it kills children”

Overstated on current official position.

RFK Jr. as HHS Secretary has:

  • Said the department “promotes the MMR,” “we have advised every child to get the MMR,” and that it is ~97% effective.
  • Told CNN’s Dana Bash in August 2026 that parents should vaccinate their children against measles.
  • Said the MMR is “safe and effective” or “safe for most.”

He has pushed single-antigen options, and disputed the Pennsylvania death count. That is not a clean “against.”

“Trump has made an executive order against the MMR vaccine”

Misleading. Executive Order 14420 (Aug. 10, 2026) lists measles, mumps, and rubella among the core recommended immunizations. It directs that the combined MMR “should be administered in three separate single-disease shots once such products are domestically available” and that shots should be spaced across separate visits where feasible.

The order also instructs the Attorney General to challenge certain state mandate laws on parental-rights/religious-exemption grounds. That is not “against the MMR vaccine”; it is against the current combination schedule and some state requirements.

The Trump quotes (soda-bottle volume, “nuclear weapon”)

At the EO signing and in a follow-up interview he compared the combined shot to pouring a soda-bottle volume into a child and said putting the three antigens together is “sort of like a nuclear weapon, according to some.”

Amish “have absolutely no religious problem with vaccines”

The Amish church has no formal doctrinal prohibition against vaccination. Low uptake is cultural (distrust of outsiders/government, limited contact with conventional medicine, private schools that do not enforce school-entry requirements) plus practical access issues. Past outbreaks (Ohio 2014) saw many Amish accept vaccine during targeted outreach. Current Lancaster estimates put MMR coverage in the Amish community around 25%. “It takes work” is accurate; whether the federal government is responsible for undertaking that work is a policy dispute.

Bottom line:

Measles is back because vaccination coverage has fallen below the ~95% needed for herd immunity in pockets, including religious/cultural communities and areas hit by COVID-era disruptions plus later hesitancy.

The two reported Pennsylvania deaths (whatever the exact contribution of measles) occurred in an unvaccinated population in a known low-coverage area. Kennedy and Trump have issued official statements that promote getting measles vaccine That is not evidence that “tens of thousands of children will die.” The actual numbers so far are a handful of deaths after years of near-zero.
