80% did not have combat roles, but that is different from saying they never saw combat. For instance, I have a great uncle who had a welding job on a Navy ship(not a combat role), but he died when the ship sank. He most certainly saw combat.

WWII was different than Vietnam. In Vietnam, if you were stationed in the Philippines, there was no danger of the Vietnamese attacking you. In WWII, if you were stationed in England, the Germans could and would attack you.

I got paid combat pay twice during my service because I was in theater. Never saw a minute of actual combat though. Again, you are cherry picking information on this. For most draftees of the Vietnam era they never went overseas, or they were sent to Europe, etc. The reason was draft service was a two-year term at the time and it took as much as year to train someone in whatever their job was. Vietnam tours were one year long so without extending a draftee usually wasn't going to be sent.

For trump to be inducted, he would have first had to be drafted. He was not drafted. The draft board did not even require him to come to the draft center where draft doctors(not military doctors) would have examined him.
