New Republican Senator thinks US liberated France from the communists

Why does California have 55 votes but Texas only has 38 and Florida only 29? Isn't the apportionment based upon population?

We are never going to agree on this. Thanks for the exchange.

Agreed. OTOH, the odds of it changing are next to nil so even discussing it is moot.

Discussing the philosophy behind it is a good topic. As the map displayed, the difference is between Rural and Urban with Suburban having the most power in swinging the vote. When Democrats and Republicans grow as extreme as they've done over the past 30 years, they end up using the "divide and conquer" strategy whether they admit it or not. It's worked since the nation is clearly divided.

In a perfect world, would it really matter if the US was a Republic or a pure Democracy? No since the outcome would always be the same. You and I both know the world isn't perfect so we look for the next best thing. You have your reasons for a pure Democracy and I have my reasons for supporting a Republic. That is worthy of a discussion since it might lead to the direction of solving all the problems without needing 38 States to ratify it.

No. I still remember Hank Johnson...

Nothing will ever surprise me after that one.

Since I -- a fairly well-informed political junkie -- never heard of this I'm going to pick Reichwing Lies About the Left for $800, Alex. (May you RIP Mr. Trebek.)

ETA: Oh! Yeah, that idiot. Fairly stupid but at a far higher level than your Mango Messiah.
