No Peak Yet. Up To 3000 Deaths Per Day Coming; 200,000 New Cases Per Day...

I don't know where you are getting your data but it sounds inflated.
https://ncov2019.live/

The numbers are quite probably inflated, even significantly.

There are cases appearing where coroners are rejecting applications for death certificates unless Covid-19 is blamed for the death, even if Covid-19 was no factor in the death. There are already lawsuits being filed against these coroners, and against the governors that employ them.

I don't know if we will see 3K deaths per day, but the biggest days so far have come close.

If we get a second wave and it's bigger then 3K is a real possibility.

But we should remember that the 3K figure was a projection based on worst case estimates, not a prediction.

If we don't open things up too soon we can hopefully avoid such a tragic figure.

What a dark gloomy soul you are. Morticia and her death watch. Go outside, get some fresh air, sunshine and live.

Translation: Do like Hillary and drink a full box of wine a day, smoke some pot, look at the sun. Ignore reality. Just wait and it will go away!

Still, death is part of life. Nothing to fear. Just don't bullshit anyone about how many will be dead when this passes.

Since the nation was ill prepared for a plague, the national economy becomes a national security issue over 3% of the weakest in our population.

25K new cases in a day does not look like 'miraculously going away.'

True. Part of the problem is testing to know exactly how many Americans are infected. A lack of testing is why the death rate is so high above WHO predictions. I think it's probably the standard 3ish% but appears higher because not enough tests are available. Currently, it's about 6% mortality rate (1.34M cases, 80K dead)

FWIW, Trump claims he's being tested every day even though there aren't enough tests to go around. Secondly, I've read the current test is no picnic; having an 8-inch swab shoved up one's nostril into their sinuses probably needs to have a few shots of one's favorite liquor before administering.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

I have heard it is an unfamiliar feeling but it doesn't hurt.

No doubt all the Coke, Meth and Adderall snorters can take it easier than normal people who don't shove crap up their nose.

https://www.today.com/health/coronavirus-test-what-it-get-nasal-swab-detecting-covid-19-t176271
One TikTok user who filmed herself getting the coronavirus test in a drive-thru facility cringed, winced and coughed afterwards.

“Felt like I was being stabbed in the brain,” she wrote in the caption. “It’s awful, I’m sorry,” the health care worker is heard saying in the video. “I wish there was a better way to do it.”

Judy Woodruff: "We do have these apparently two new grim forecasts today. I want to ask about the CDC report yet. We haven't seen all the numbers. The White House is saying it's not their numbers, but they are talking about, by June 1, 3,000 deaths a day. They're talking about up to 200,000 new cases a day.

This is — this is the wrong direction."

Laurie Garrett:

"Absolutely, Judy. And it's a huge, explosive growth they're predicting.

And it's basically — if you look at the distribution that they are imagining, it's really the Prairie states, the sort of Mississippi Valley, and the Deep South states.

And it seems, I think — though we don't have access to the raw data that they are working with, but it does seem to coincide with these outbreaks that have been occurring inside of meatpacking plants, nursing homes, Veterans Administration hospitals, that have claimed large numbers of workers in those facilities, but haven't yet generalized into the larger community.

And I think they're projecting that there will be generalization, that a typical — an infected meatpacker, for example, might then infect their family members, some of those family members may infect local storekeepers, and so on.

So I think they're imagining a pretty explosive set of growths, all in fairly small remote areas, and, in many cases, rural counties."

Explosive forecasts

The president said on April 16th that the USA has 'passed the peak.'

BBC

The president was terribly wrong.

We have not passed the peak yet. It is getting worse. The worst is yet to come.

And now it is moving from the cities into rural areas, moving from Democratic strongholds into Republican ones.

How will that affect our politics?

More bullshit projections.

Probably depends in no small part on the technique of the front line worker at the other end of the swab, as well as the sensitivity of the individual.

Hello FreeSpeech,

More bullshit projections.

No, these were worst case projections. It's always smart to make projections based on worst possible case, take measures accordingly, and then hope they are not needed. That way, you're covered in case it really does get that bad.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. It is a very old wisdom.

Just being logical...

Hello Dutch Uncle,

A good possibility. Definitely different techniques from nurses using needles.
